I've averaged 25k miles a year on my bikes since 1971. A few years have topped 50k miles.
I believe I have seen every type of bad driver there is to see many times over. My list of dangerous drivers is: 1. Soccer moms in vans with cell phones. 2. Anyone else on a cell phone. 3. Wanna be rice racers that have to prove their econo box will outrun a Fireblade 4. Drunk drivers. 5. Drivers that believe 2 feet is a safe following distance. 6. Senile drivers.
Granted, old drivers dont have the fastest reflexes, but consequently, they do everything relatively slowly. Usually, when they are involved, there is plenty of lead time to accommodate the situation. I believe more accurately, we could say that there are too many people of various ages that for various reasons should not be driving. The elderly account for a minority within that group.
The elderly are not, by any standard, the most dangerous on the roads.

Too many people over even 60 years of age should just not be driving anymore.
