Ok, I have the opportunity to buy a 1998 gsxr 600 for 2k. Is this a good deal? Was parked for 5 years, only has 2850 miles on it. Has been down on the right side lightly, rashed but no broken plastic, needs paint and a right mirror and it would be good to go. Any opinions are greatly appreciated, Josh

Kelly Blue Book (http://www.kbb.com) says dealer retail is $4065.
NADA Book (http://www.nada.com) says average retail is $3220, low retail is $2450.
NADA's Value Explanations:
A low retail unit may have extensive wear and tear. Body parts may have dents and blemishes. The buyer can expect to invest in cosmetic and/or mechanical work. This vehicle should be in safe running order. Low retail vehicles usually are not found on dealer lots.
An average retail unit should be clean without obvious defects. All rubber and cables should be in good condition. The paint should match and have a good finish. All lights and switches should work properly. The mileage should be within or slightly higher than the average range. Should also pass any emission inspection, if required.
So, if it starts and runs OK, $2K sounds like a good deal. If it doesn't start, expect fuel system problems and probably a new battery... depending on how comfortable you are with working on it, it may or may not be a good deal.

Great second bike perhaps... depends on the grief factor derived from sitting so long. Any idea if it was stored properly???? Bottom line - I wouldn't get rid of the Bandit for it. Keep us posted. :beers: :beers:

I've been following this vintage 600cc sportbikes for months now (looking/dreaming for a trackbike). That certainly sounds like a very good deal on the surface. Like Jay said, how it's been stored would make a big difference in how easy and inexpensive it will be to actually get on the road. I imagine you could be in for a lot of headaches sorting out little things here and there.
I absolutely love the SRAD GSXR's look. Red & black? If you don't buy it, let me know. :beers:

Actually it's already running, I could have done the work, but the way I found out about the bike is my grandpa went through it for the guy who owns it. It needed the tank cleaned, got a new sending unit/fuel pump, and carbs cleaned. The only thing lacking is synching the carbs and a set of plugs.
It may already be sold i just found out, but I am going to try to buy it next week if it isn't.
And it will be a second bike, I love the bandit on longer excursions. It will stay right here
Thanks Guys
And pitter, It's white/blue. But if i get it, seeing as how it needs painted anyway, i will probably go with the yellow/black scheme. I always wanted a TL in those colors.

ok similar thing here fellas, i work with a kid who has a 2000 zx6r(green and black) with less then a 100 miles on it! he bought it as his first bike and layed it down, no gear on got his hands all messed up, parked it fixed the mirror and turn signal. body has a slight scuff with no visable cracks in the plastics. been sitting almost five years. he is asking 2500 for it . i offered him 1800 and he is still thinking about it. would need some major carb work im sure and a batt, and maybe tires, looked to have a flat spot from sitting 5 years. what do ya think? i know it's not a suzuki but it would make a heck of a project bike?!!

I would say take 2k worth of bills in your hand, and leave with the bike.
Its a good thing I don't have much spending $,because I might end up with a collection of motorcycles and a divorce! Dan

I dunno... would Kawasaki Green clash with the Speed Triple?
(Or is yours not green?)

I thought so...
Yup, I think the two different greens would clash. :stickpoke:

Other than his garage...I doubt they would be in the same place at the same time...therefor ...no color clashing issue. If you got the cash and you got the desire...get the bike.
