I'm waiting for an engine and transmission out of my car to sell so I can buy the Bandit 1200 I want. :motorsmile: I can't wait!

If you sell the engine and transmission out of your car you're definitely going to need the Bandit for transportation. :grin:

I've got a new engine and tranny ready to go in. Getting rid of the old engine and tranny. Its not my daily driver either, so it doesn't matter either way.

Oh good, I thought you were the true hard core biker parting out your car for a new ride. What kind of car is it? What kind of motor/tranny is going in?

No, I like riding, but not that much. It's a 1970 Mercury Cougar. I'm swapping out the old 351W for 428 Cobra Jet. Should be pretty wild. I'm actually more excited about getting a Bandit 1200, though. The Bandit I want just happened to become available at the same time that I'm selling my engine and tranny out of my car, so I figured I can't miss an opportunity like that.

Now, I know I am new here, and new to bikes in general (and even quite fond of them already) but come on, you'd rather ride a little bandit than be behind the wheel of a 428CJ? I mean, the motor itself is relatively rare, with only the SCJ being more rare (and a zillion dollars more) I dunno, I guess I am just used to the tire smoking gas guzzling V8 world of high performance automobile more than I am of little tiny xxxCC motors.
On a side note, 2 things that really burn me about bikes
1) No gas gauge
2) No tranny gear indicator
Maybe its just a rookie thing, but I like to know what gear I'm running and when I'll be walking. :beers:

1) I have a gas gauge. 04 B12S :D
2) It is a rookie thing. I know what gear I am in. Ride like I do and you'll start to know what gear you're in too.

Motorcycles go real fast for real cheap. Plus, with a bike like the Bandit, you get luxury comfort with excellent performance. A stock Bandit 1200 is much faster than my car will be with the 428, and the price of the Bandit would only pay for half the price it cost me to build the 428. I built the 428 more for the gee-whiz factor than anything, if I want to have some real fun then I go riding.

You can fix the gear indicator problem by reading the thread in the FAQ.
I don't have a problem counting to 5 or 6 though, and with the tach, it doesn't take too many miles to figure out what gear you're in if you loose track.
My B12 doesn't have any trouble smoking the rear tire if I want it to - and it'll do wheelies... will a 428CJ Cougar do that?
(I suppose it would if you geared it right - I had a '65 Mustang with a built 289 that could lift the front tires ~4-6" off the ground, but it was geared so low it wouldn't break the Ton... but it got to 98-99 mph quick.)

I'm sure the 428 won't have any trouble smoking the tires, but I don't see any wheelies happening. I'm hoping for low 12s in the 1/4 mile. I'm sure a stock B12 could run low 11s pretty easily.

I like old muscle cars and would like to have another some day. The problem I had with the old one was: they take up a lot of room to store, and you will spend hundreds of dollars for fuel on a weekend cruise. Throw in insurance, tires, and other consumables and these things aren't cheap to run. However, after watching the Barrett auto auction and seeing what these cars sell for (cars we used to hack on in high school :sad: ) there is a good return on your dollar down the road.
