Title: Hooliganism at its worst.. :o(
Post by: BlkJello on September 20, 2005, 01:00:54 PM
Saw a helluva sight sunday afternoon. It was at first kinda cool but became ugly and maddening real fast.   Was out with the wife, picking her up a new printer here in Woodland hills so cal off topanga cyn blvd. We pull up to topanga to make a right to go home when all of a sudden when we get the green... 3 guys with weird [pointing up] flashing arrows on there helmets pull right in front of the cars with a hand outstretched stopping all cars .  I then quick look left and sure as **it theres ATLEAST 100+ bikes pulling up to the intersection doing wheelies...stoppies,,all kinds of browdys\burnouts.. etc. I notice one guy on his gixxer doing a stoppie upto the light. Im thinking "man hes holding it alooong time." When all of sudden the front end starts to wobble and bam...over the bars he goes.. slamming chest\face first on to the pavement..then sliding half way into the intersection. By the way... His so called "gear" included, plastic german style cap [cant be called a helmet]   shorts, vans, t-shirt with a leather vest.  After which, he just gets up and picks up the bike and takes off. Not even checking the bike for whatever damage the poor thing may have had.  Meanwhile the whole group is blowing the light...literally takeing over the intersection. The car that happened to make a right infront of us was bullied by 2 bikes over to the side of the road.  As soon as all the bikes passed we had the red again. So we wait till the green and there again...as soon as light goes green...ANOTHER 3 guys hyjack  the intersection and hold up traffic for another group of 50 or so bikes.  All the while the guys are doin more wheelies and stunting all over the 3 lanes of topanga. This is imho why people just dont give a bleep about riders in general.  Anyone else seen any of this hooliganism? Man..im all for profiling and looking cool...but all these guys did was look like asses and basically pissed everyone around off. Embarrassed me as a rider.
Also..when did it become cool to wear one of those "helmets" on a sportbike???  Man...i must be getting old.

Cracking down on the bikers on Mulholland & Palomar. At least that's what the CHP just got big grant money for.
Title: idiots
Post by: tacoman on September 20, 2005, 01:49:04 PM
We get a few idiots here (Wa. St)  but not in large packs.  Usually what starts in Cali works it way up here so in time we may have renegade packs.  Not much you can do but let them go on their way.  One of two things happen with these guys, they either out grow it or die.

Funny you ask....there was ONE on the other side of the median...cruising about 15mph just watching them all go by.  He didnt see the guy eat it.  He kinda just looked bewildered.  Wonder what he really could of done anyway...they were blowing by so fast.   :duh:

on PCH in orange county they do stoppies and ride in packs but don't obstruct traffic;  except for the spectecle they put on, especially the sexy female passengers one or two of them usually carry.

I think even the old crews in the bay area all have kids now so they all do lowspeed parkinglot sportbike acrobatics.  The site you witnessed must be a fluke.  Thier parents' trust funds should be capping out soon so all those antics should come to an end too.

I drive a fullsized GMC pickup, with a dent in one side, anyway.
If I had the green light, I would have taken at least a couple of them out....the arseholes! :gatlin

Seriously, what could one cop do, except maybe attempt to ticket the one squid who crashed?  Since they're jerks, the rest of them may have swarmed on the cop.......
Of course, if there were enough cops, and they attempted to stop the pack of bikes, and the bikes ran and caused accidents....it would be the COPS fault!
(Unless George Bush was in the state...)

Well maybe the cop was out of jurisdiction or something. But.... IMHO he should have keyed up the old Motorola and asked for a helicopter to just observe from the air (reporting their position ) and wait until they all got to where they were going and then road units could smother them like ants at a picnic. Been done before. Best part is they all have that high five kind of feeling when they get to where they were going anyway feeling like they got away with everything. When all the badges start driving up they get real quiet with blank faces.

In the parlance of a Jerry Springer audience member - "Where you at?"

Mike, I live in Tarzana near Woodland Hills and cruise the canyon pretty regularly but have never had the unfortunate experience of encountering these clowns. If I had to guess I would say they were "Rough Riders". I am sure you have heard of them, they have store in Van Nuys and are usually a very "urban" group of lads. All I can say is that God was watching when that guy ate it.

Are you sure there wasn't a film crew lurking somewhere. I was in Hollywood one afternoon and a similar thing happened but it turned out to be the filmming of "Tourqe" or some bullshit movie like that.

One cop can call in a large number of tags!

Then again, half those bike are stolen anyway.

Wait a minute, we're talking about the LA area......
There should have at least been a TV helicopter in the air within a couple of minutes!  Heck, the cops chasing 100 squids on live TV.....I'd watch it!
It would look like one of those 'greased pig' contests at the county fair.

I kind of doubt it was a legit movie operation. It could be one of those 'squidly boyz terrorize de town' home video things.

Finally, the perfect use for a traffic light camera!

I live about 1\2 mile up topanga from the topanga\mulholland intersection.   Im sure there was no film crew.  Ya know...it just might have been the "Rough Riders" but no one was flying any colors.  No jackets or stickers or anything identifying them as whoever.   Very wide selection of bikes though. Even saw a few metric cruisers in the bunch.   To me ..it wasnt really that big of a deal until the guy crashed....and then  2 of the guys bullied a car infront of us over to the side.   At that point it wasnt cool  anymore.  The one funny thing about it all is when the guy ate it..... not ONE of the other guys even hesitated for one millisecond.  They just rode around him like a squashed cat in the road.

See, they don't even care about each other, much less anyone else.  They'll pay eventually, you can bank on it.

I got a 69 C10 (no pipe bumpers though) and it's low enough I could ride beside them and hook their foot controls with my front bumper and hit the brakes on them.  I hate people that do this crap, these are the guys that give our sport a bad name.

I got caught up in a similar situation on Lake Hughes Rd in Castaic. A group of about 50 riders got off of the north bound 5 to do the canyon run and swarmed the intersection blowing the red. I was waiting for the light in my car when I got surrounded. Fortunately there were no accidents but it sure is a bizarre situation getting stuck in the middle of the swarm.
