Motorcyclist dies after performing stunts, witnesses say

July 2, 2005 — A 19-year-old Brownsville man died Thursday night after he was allegedly performing stunts while riding a sport motorcycle in Lincoln Park.
Investigators believe that Arturo Francisco Lara was going at least 48 mph when he lost control of his red 2003 Honda CBR600 while maneuvering a curve on Lincoln Park Road.
The crash sent Lara and his motorcycle skidding across the road.
Brownsville Police Lt. James Paschall said Lara hit his head on a curb and then hit a tree with his body.
Investigators believe Lara died on impact.
Paschall said the case remains under investigation, but witnesses told police Lara had been driving at high speeds and performing stunts such as “wheelies” shortly before the accident.
Cameron County Precinct 2-2 Justice of the Peace Oscar Tullos pronounced Lara dead at 9:15 p.m. Thursday and then ordered an autopsy.
Results were not available at press time Friday, but Paschall said Lara received severe head trauma and was not wearing a hel-met.
“This is tragic accident that could have been avoided,” Paschall said.
