I have confirmed it!
« on: March 17, 2006, 12:21:26 AM »
Through a controlled laboratory experiment (on the road) I have determined that a B12 will run for approximately 5-10 miles with the oil drain plug missing. Do not try this at home, and if you decide too, make sure you are using mobil 1 or a more expensive oil, as that will tend to make you more sick when you discover that it's all on the road.
After a hurried oil change last thurs. evening, I decided to get out for a little friday, about 15 miles into my trip I get on the brakes and the rear slides. I decided i would go home and figure out what was wrong with my back brakes(thought they may have been just a little grabby) about 2 miles later my oil light comes on, i kill the bike instantly and coast over to the roadside. As soon as i looked back I was sick, there was an oil trail for as far as I could see, and where I hit the kill switch it dumped about a 1.5 qts.  Thank god for the bandit having a kickass oiling system as this could have been costly. Just thought i'd share my story
Josh

And the moral of the story is double check everything :duh:  $65 oil changes suck

Good thing the back tire slid and made you look. Your $65 oil change sure did suck, bit NO WHERE near as sucky as a "blow'd up" motor...

Its happened to me twice and both times I felt like somebody was watching over me those days.
First time I was on the interstate doing bout 75 switching lanes and felt the back shimmy ever so slightly a few seconds later I rev it up to switch lanes again and it really went wild on me so I decided to pull over thinking maybe I had a flat. The thing is when you stop and and shut it off that's when the circulating oil gets loose and wow....you better back the hell up if you know what's good for ya, cause hot oil sure ain't the new lotion for your body :duh:

Second time was after an oil change. My carbs over flowed and I needed to change my oil twice so after the first change I thought I'd  go a few mins up the road then come back and change the second time. Well, bout 5 miles up the interstate I get ready to take an off ramp and I'm really on it ready to get deep in the lean when holy shit I felt like lil' Nicky for a min the way the back was sliding on me.

My remedy to the blown plug is.....I bought a plug that has the nipple on the end that you plug a hose into to drain your pan. Sure, it takes a little longer for it to drain, but you don't have to remove the plug anymore. I put a lil teflon tape on the threads and a smidge of locktite and it's never moved once and no drips.

Luckily the Bandit holds lots of oil so there's plenty to spill!  I did an oil change on my dad's motor home.  Filled it  with 7 quarts, started it up and hey, whats that gushing sound.  Sounds kinda like a waterfall.  As I look down I see the new oil filter sitting on the ground    Oh well, the engine got a good flush and the gravel RV pad will not have weeds or be dusty for some time!

It's also a low pressure oil system so it will be fine on very low amounts of oil. Gotta love these mills they are very hard to kill. Not like we don't try every now and again.
2005 Bandit 1200, Modified Holeshot Stage 1 with 17.5 pilots 2.75 turns out, and 110 mains 5 shims. Muzzy Slip on w/mid-pipe, stock filter. 1.5" hole in the airbox lid.

7 QUARTS!!!!!! My god! No wonder why you heard a waterfall.....you're lucky you didn't blow your rings from excess pressure....it only takes 3.3 quarts.

I'm surprised it started.....

Actually, the air-oil cooled Suzukis have two oil pumps. A high pressure/low volume pump supplies oil for the cam & crank bearings and a low pressure/high volume pump provides oil for cooling the bottoms of the pistons and the top of the head.
