The UK/Ireland guys had a good topic going regarding etiquete. Wave? Nod? Thumbs up?
Question: How to you let other riders know that the police are on the stretch of road you just came off of?
On my local mountain twisties the standard seems to be thumbs up for a cop free road and a pat on the top of the helmet to warn that the man is just around the bend.
Just so no one slams me for being a cop hating scoff law let it be disclosed that I am a police. I happily let brother bikers know when my blue brothers are lurking. Hmm. I guess that makes me a hipocritical scofflaw.
My personal favorite greating is very traditional. Thumbs on the sides of the helmet, all fingers waggling, tongue sticking out.

For me, wave is more or less standard procedure, I use the nod if Im using both hands (tight turn, holding in clutch, etc) and someone else waves to me.
I use the old 'hand on top of the head' hand signal for cops, but I dont know if anybody else actually knows what that means.

How 'bout spinning your index finger around, emulating an old-style police light?
-
I think just flipping your visor open and pulling up your nostrils from the top of your head should do it. Maybe a horn with barn animal calls LOL.

I've seen both the head tap and the finger twirl (a sincere thanks to those curteous riders!). I would usually tap the lid.
-
I've flashed my hi beams or just take my left hand in a push down motion as to say slow down. Wich works not only for cops, but also any hazards on the roadway.
-
I won't understand what any of you are doing if I pass you on the road.
I'll probably think you're retarded.

Some of us are. But what does that have to do with anything? :monkeymoon:

you will have plenty of time to think about it while the cop is writing your ticket :stickpoke:

I thought it was mandatory to be a little retarded to ride
these things the way we do?

FWIW, I use the old standard: arm extended, hand out, palm down, and make a "slow down" motion by raising and lowering the arm.
(For some reason, I hate the whole "wave at the other mousketeers" thing. Just 'cuz we all bought bikes don't make us all members of a big club, ya' know. Makes me think the other drivers look at us like a bunch of dumbasses. )
