Because I want it to!!! :taz:
-
??? So change the seat. ???
From what I've been reading about the new Connie, it's a big disappointment. They're already having issues with heat and computer goofs, and the dang thing is over 650 pounds wet!
I'm thinking of changing my seat too, though I'm getting used to it. But the rest of the bike is just so damn great, there's no way I'd even consider another bike right now... unless I could keep my Bandit!

please tell me who's making a different seat??? cause as of now I know of no one??? I agree though under 250 miles the bike is great, around town great...but i want something I can two up on better.

Corbin is working on obtaining a B1250 (possibly from Dale Walker) at this moment and could be coming out with a seat before the summer is out.
Sargent is also working on a B1250 seat for release next spring, and has a list you can put your name on if you're interested.

You know accessories for brand-new models take awhile to come out.... Patience, Grasshopper! :bandit:
-
Thats some pretty SLOW times considering how long the bikes already been out.
-
How long has it been out? I got the first one on the board, on March 28th... that's only a little over 3 months!
How long does it take for a company to design, fit, prototype, test, re-tool, and put into mass production a brand new product?
So you're gonna sell a great bike like your B1250 just because you don't like the seat, and don't have the patience to wait a few months to spend a couple hundred bucks to fix it.
So then what? Shell out $14,000 for a bike that you've never sat on? What if you don't like the seat on it? Or the handlebars, or the mirrors? How long do you think it'll take for aftermarket accessories for the new Concours to come out?
Why don't you just get one of those universal seat pads, or a sheepskin or something cheap to hold you over until you can get a Corbin or a Sargent?
It's your call, but something tells me you'll regret it if you sell it... but I guess you can always get another one, huh?

ive sat on a C14. the problem is projected new seats are for NEXT yr that means the bike will have been out for a yr before production of a decent seat, that is FAR TOO LONG!! ive looked at the universal gel pads and might still possibly go that way, I only know this my Stock 03 seat was light yrs better than the 07.
-
Hey, I'm just being a good fellow Bandit rider and doing my duty. Your thread title "I think my B12.5 is going bye bye" sounded like a cry for help...
Seriously tho, I do think it's rather unreasonable to sell an otherwise outstanding motorcycle just because of the seat, and the fact that you might have to wait for a new one.
I think seats take longer because there's a lot more to them than most aftermarket parts. I don't like mine much either, but I don't have any problem waiting for a new one. Just like I'm waiting for a sport rack and a lower fairing. No biggy.
I waited 3 months after ordering this bike to get it too, and I couldn't possibly be happier... it was more than worth it. :bigok:

You might try this out:

Haven't used them myself, but know several people who swear by his work.
I've spent a small fortune on gel pads, sheep skins, beads, air pads, etc, and just always end up going back to stock, so will try Spencer next. Didn't like the Corbin I brought for a previous bike.
-
I may try him. it certainly cant get any worse!!

From what I've been reading about the new Connie, it's a big disappointment.
So what have you read? I've only seen one "published" article at the AMA site, and the real print articles look to start next month.
I am a little sceptical of the online press, so I'm curious where you've read reviews.

Why, over at the Concours Owners Group (COG) in the C14 forum... by the new owners themselves, and those who have test-ridden it:
http://www.concours.org/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=14
Pay particular attention to a thread titled "Dear Kawasaki"... and another called "How's the Heat?" where two new owners describe actual burns and blisters on their legs after just 2-3 hours of riding.

Thanks for that link, TR. I just might try this guy out myself, once winter comes along and I can do without the bike for a month or two. Prices are very reasonable, too... good call.

Considering the seat has been available since early 06 I'd say both Corbin and Sargent have been very slow in producing their own seat.
-
I'm definately going to try these guys out for my seat. I agree that the seat on the B1250 is pretty uncomfortable. It's still better than my old GS1100S though.
-

Yes, in Canada (actually it's been since '05 with the 3G B650).
But not in the US, where both Corbin & Sargent have their offices, until this year. It did surprise me to see Corbin has a seat for the Yamaha MT-01 which has never been offered in the US, but I think that's the only non-US bike seat I saw on their site.
Also consider these guys make seats for practically anything, so their efforts are gonna go to where they think they'll make the best money first... so maybe, just maybe, they didn't anticipate the new 1250 to be such a hit. (Although, of the 3 Suzuki dealers near me, I've only seen one bike on the floor and it sat there for a month before it left, so maybe they aren't hot sellers everywhere?)
And you do know Sargent does custom seat services... that's the ONLY way they were doing 1G & 2G Bandits. So you can still send them your seat and tell them what you want them to do to it to tailor it to your needs.
-
I think I read somewhere that even Suzuki will be offering a gel seat for this bike. Mind you, that won't help you if Suzuki in your neck of the woods is even slower than Suzuki UK to come up with accessories.
I'll do some digging and let you know.
-
I know I have a lowly G1 bandit, surely it ain't that bad, or maybe you should change the shape of the ass's that sit upon it. Cause I reckon the lowly G1 seat the ducks gutz, 1 up or 2, and it sure as hell beats the ZRX seat hands down. I have couriered on both bikes 12 hour days, give me the bandit allday every day. My 2.5 cents worth, now I'll go and :stfu:

A cheap piece of sheepskin from IKEA (~$30) will make a world of difference until a better looking solution is found (not necessarily better feeling too). That is by far the cheapest comfort addition to any bike and one of the most effective, albeit a little odd looking :).
And yes, 1250 bandit seat is total crap. No reason to dump an otherwise damn fine bike though.

Gentlemen, this is simple stuff. I, too, found the stock seat on my '06 (same seat as the 1250) somewhat harder than an ironing board with my boney butt on it. Sooooo.....I went to my local upholstery guruess, she sent me off to her foam supplier, I tried out a variety of densities by sitting on them in their warehouse, picked what I thought would do the job and then notified the guruess.
She took my seat, unstapled the cover, shaved the stock foam down by exactly one-half, glued on a block of the stuff I'd selected at the foam supplier's, shaped it properly, stapled the cover back on and gave it back to me. All for C$50.00......and now I can go for about 2-3 hours without numb-butt.....instead of the 20 minutes with the stock setup.
Plus the seat still LOOKS stock and everything still works with no shifting or foam degradation after a year. What's not to like ??
Ya just gotta find an upholstery place that does custom work and has lotsa foam choices.

I did the same thing to my wife's old B4 front seat myself. I went one step further and modified it a little to contour it to her bottom. It was real easy. All you need is an electric carving knife, a grinder and a staple gun.
Her is a tutorial on how to do the job.

Great link, Katamaniac... :thanks:

It was really bad when we stapled her back together with the staple gun. :bandit:

If you like to throw money at a problem, try these guys:
http://www.day-long.com/
In the summer they have a great big back log, so buy a spare stock seat and send them that (throw money).
I just got one. I have put less that 100 miles on it so far. It is stiff, so I feel a bit of seat vibration. But I believe it will be an improvement.
-
Get an Airhawk seat cushion and keep the bandit... that's waht i did and can go day-on-end with no rear end issues
-
My seat cover needed to be replaced on my 98 B12 after 50k miles. It only had a couple of small tears at the front where it's drawn together towards the gas tank.
I found a local shop that reupholstered it with premium vinyl and also installed a gel pad (cost was about $100). I am big believer in the gel pad but it does have a couple of drawbacks: 1) heavy, I'll bet the seat weighs twice as much than before just because of the pad. 2) retains heat when in the sun. I keep the seat covered on summer days for sure, I sometimes even soak rag & cover the seat. Usually not a problem when I am riding, I'll just cover the seat with my riding jacket. I'm guessing the factory gel seat has some insulating foam to prevent this. Comfort is BIG improvement.
Two modifications I think every bike needs: are a gel pad seat and hard brake lines.
Having said this, there is no way that the new Connie & new Bandit are in the same class. you're comparing apples to tomato juice.
I think the Connie will be a super nice bike. I hope you enjoy it. Keep in touch & let us know how you like it.

Doesn't Corbin make a nice, comfy aftermarket seat? My '02 Bandit has a horrendous saddle after 2+ hours on it. Upgrade it.

Tsk, tsk...'no' for you perhaps but there are people that have been happy with Corbin seats...I am one of those...I liked it right off the shelf but after I had it custom shaped it was amazing.

I don't know about you, Dread, but I've never known anyone to get rid of a perfectly good motorcycle just because of the seat.
It's one of easiest mods to make, yet Mr. 03 has rejected every suggestion made here. I guess some folks just have very close relations with their butts.
Personally, I plan on sending mine out over the winter so I don't miss good riding weather. Until then, it's not so big a deal as to ruin my enjoyment of the bike. If it gets that bad, I'll just throw a pad on it or something...

He means- No corbin does not make a seat for the new bandit yet.

good thing we arent all the same, thatd be boring!! Of course if you were paying attention you would know there are more reasons than the seat!!!

Not in this thread. :stickpoke:
The only complaint I've seen from you here about the B1250 is the seat. You've made a comment or two about how much you want a C14... nothing else about your Bandit, though.
Can you show me where in this thread I haven't been paying attention?
Anyway, good luck with the C14, I hope you enjoy the hell out of it! :bigok:

Jeez, 03, that's a mighty cheap trick... :annoy:
Both those statements obviously refer specifically to the seat, when you don't "cherry-pick" them and present them out of context:
for a new COncourse 14. The bandit is just not comfortable, the seat suxs ass and neither my wife or my 12 yr old son can stand riding it with me. I love it when Im by myself but even I cant stand it after 225-250 miles.

Never mind, bud! It's a silly argument! Whatever!
I just hope somebody comes out with a new windscreen for your C14 immediately, or you'll be trading that bike in too... :stickpoke:
Enjoy!

im looking into a trade in but selling out right is also a posibility.

Jeez. And I thought it was just me! Rode a GS1100 to the Baha about twenty years ago and the seat nearly killed me. But I was younger and survived. Now at 56 I'm good for about 100K on my 06 B12 before I gotta stop. Just went for a 2000K ride with a buddy and he used a cut up car seat bead pad (about $10) on his Beemer seat and it really seemed to work. I'm thinkin of going that route. But I gotta say that this seat is a lot better than those crappy old Gs's I used to own. (750, 850, 1100.) But sellin a bike because of the seat? It just dont figure. You sure the real reason isn't that Howitzer of a can or that ugly silver engine?
Just messin with ya. Don't take me serious.
-
when i first got the 1250 i was in heaven with the seat. try a 450 mile day on a DR seat and you'll know what i mean. i must admit that after riding it a while i am having some issues with the edges of the seat causing some pain after about 100 miles. i will be looking for other seat options in the future but for now my therapy is just to ride the DR more and appreciate the 1250 couch when i can... :bandit:
