Okay boys and girls...
I have a cherry/mint/showroom new '03 Bandit 1200s I just smashed up because of MY stupidity.
Price tag to replace every damaged part? (Which I will do because I'm a perfectionist.)
$1131 U.S.
Moral of the story? Let's be careful out there.
I consider myself to be anal about safety... and yet here I am... bleeding and sore... and have a big bill to pay.
Sincerely yours,
Stupid/Stupid/Stupid

Well, my 'bandit stupidity' only cost me about $800 on my '99, but it's been a while, and I guess there is some inflation....
Glad you're somewhat 'OK', it can be a lot worse.....
There really isn't any 'small' screw up on these things, is there?

how long have you been riding straight (nobreaks allowed)?
statisticly you are probably still on top
being safe and wearing gear and all
i think the numbers go like this:
1st 5 years gotta drop it
next 15 years probably won't drop it
5 years after that: high chance of dropping it again
since you feel young and imortal because you've done so well till now
20 years after this: depeding on your actual age you should be fine unless actual aging/nature is putting stress on your riding abilities
Then you get a turbo Busa with a SIDECAR!

I know how you feel. I have a damaged '03 1200s and just got a quote for parts that came in at $1807.25 which is not including the bars, headlight, front indicators and speedo which need replacing as well (it is becoming a streetfighter).
Then there is the cost of all my riding gear. The helmet wrecked in the crash and my jacket, pants, gloves and boots were cut off by medics so I had to cough up another $2000 to replace all of that.
Having an accident where there is no one else but yourself to blame really does suck.

Sorry to hear it, dude.
What's your insurance deductible?
Pete,
Didn't you have an on-ramp get-off a year or two ago??
I know it wasn't in '99

Went out for a 'quick run' to the hardware store, came up to a right turn (3-way intersection, no stop signs) 1 block from my house where there is almost never a car approaching from the left... so I was ASSuming I could just make the turn without a stop.. No such luck. Had to lock up the brakes... bike wobbled hard... and I layed it down to avoid hitting the car. Hi-sided I guess, although it's a blur right now.
Landed on my left wrist & left knee and flipped onto my right shoulder. just little boo-boos, nothing serious.
Fortunately, i was going pretty slow. As far as the bike goes, all the damage is on the left side. (starter cover, shift lever, footpeg, left fairing, tail cowling, both turn signals, left mirror, clutch lever, bar-ends, and gas tank (ouch $) Got everything ordered for under $1k at crotchrocket.com.
Won't be claiming it on insurance. $500 deductible, and then my rates would probably go through the roof.

H$ll of a note to pay for insurance and be afraid to claim on it?! I know how you feel.
Sort of defeats the purpose of having it, though.
I figure I'd get screwed on the insurance, so I just don't carry anything but liablility and I know I'm buying parts or throwing the bikes away if anything happens.
And I drive REAL careful, .
