bandit compared to speed triple
« on: April 07, 2007, 05:02:57 PM »
has anyone here owned or ridden the 05 and up speed triple? im not really planning on getting rid of my bandit cause i love the bike and its my streetfighter project at the moment, but im getting new bike fever and considering one.

my bike:
00 1200 bandit
d+d exhaust
jetted
mikuni flatside carbs.
2 up in the back
future mods:
gsxr cams
gsxr inverted forks
vfr single side swingarm

before i keep doin more mods, ive had the thoughts of getting the 07 roulette green speed triple. only thing holding me off is the thought of payments and full coverage insurance. i wouldnt mind some thoughts and opinions, thanks guys

I've test ridden every version of the Speed Triple.

The newet ones are very close to the Bandit in performance.  I would give the edge to Bandit on power and the Triple for suspension.  But so close now that it's hard to say.  The Bandit wins for comfort.  The Triple looks cool and costs more.  Nothing sounds as good as a tuned triple.

I've had my 98 B12 since new & put 56k miles on it. Done some of the popular mods and it fits me well.  I wanted the new FZ-1 but couldn't locate one for a price and have lost interst due to me complaints from owners.  I took a weekend ride in the Ozarks with 3 other riders, one was on  a new FZ-1. I was OK, but we all had fun.

I might look at 'Busa somday, but if I want my wife to travel I need a real touring bike.....

The Triple is a fun ride, a little cramped hunched over.

i owned a 2000 bandit 12, and have a 2000 triple right now. i would say they are somewhat similar, power wise they are close. with the bandit having a bit more on the bottom and the triple having a bit more in the mid. the upper end of the power band is real close. hands down the brakes are WAY better on my triple then the bandits were( i had ss lines and hh pads on my bandit) and the triples were better stock. i have since upgraded my brakes on my triple, so there is no comparision. the suspension is better on the triple also. mine have been rebuilt by racetech and with my rebuild mine feel like the new 1050 ones do stock. the 1050 have very good suspension on it. as for comfort thats is a personal thing i think. i found the bandit very comfortable, but also feel the same way about my triple. i have done many 300-400 mile days on both bikes and say it is a draw. my bandit was a naked streetfighter, so it is about the same as my triple is for wind protection. bandit wins hands down for ease of maintenence, and cost of it. triple has shim under bucket valses much more labor involved in checking or adjusting them. both bikes are great. bandit also has a much better aftermarket for it. triple is better with the 1050 bike then mine is. i have ridden a 1050 a few times and like them alot. more power better suspension, and good brakes. but the bandit still stirs my blood as well. i look for 05 bandits in the blue and white all the time used. want one to tour on. my triple will do it, rode to Ga from Oh. but the bandit is better for long rides. sorry long winded but both bikes are real nice in there own ways.

thanks for the info guys, ive really been up in the air on what to do, and taking trips to the triumph showroom is not helping, lol. i was pretty close to picking up the speedtriple and even considering the thruxton, i love triumphs line of bikes for these past few years. but the thoughts of payments and full coverage insurance is telling me to keep the bandit and finish the project. thanks

U wouldn't put full coverage on a new Bandit? 10 grand (around) for a bike ain't chicken feed.

i am waiting for the 675 triple to come out. the triumph boards i post on have photos and all kinds of rumors about it. if it comes out i am buying one next bike. lighter then the 675 daytona. close power wise. they will tune it for more midrange. great brakes, suspension, and frame/swingarm. from the photos i have seen it shares the dssa with the 675 and same frame/tailsection. but the weight savings would make up for what power it looses to the 1050. and yes triumph has been on the ball the last few years. with the 675, 1050 triple, and st1050. its funny to me how they have been on the mark and the big 4 have been getting more ugly every year. dont care for the looks of most of the new sportbikes. the bandit 1250, and the vfr are the only ones i like the looks of.
