Injury update
« on: March 18, 2006, 03:23:25 PM »
Injury update is as follows. After surgery to repair a severly broken collar bone ( metal plate/screws ) I am into my 6 month of recovery and pretty much back up to speed. I have resumed regular weightlifting and feel little or no ill effects. Only discomfort is some skin irritation around the incision which is most likely the result of nerve damage from the incision itself. This too improves daily.

I offer up this information as consolation to anyone who might me licking thier wounds thinking they will never be the same. I am here to tell you that you will get better.... it just takes time.

It is good to hear things are going well for you but unfortunately I cannot share your optimism.
I came off 10 months ago and messed my leg up quite badly. Three operations later and they put it back together as best they could. I saw the surgeon two weeks ago and asked him to just cut the damn thing off. Funnily enough he said no but suggested putting a thicker rod in my leg due to the current one flexing and possibly snapping inside the bone.
It is like a medical version of The Never Ending Story.

Great to hear you are almost back to 100%.  I to was involved in a pretty serious accident some years ago.  Knocked off at open road speed by a drunk driver.  My right leg is about half and inch shorter than the left one and held together by rods and screws (you know the drill).  I only have one scar that counts and thats the one in my head that says be careful alot more than it used to.

Ps:  A larger rod helped me!!!!
Taken over by the dark side. Now riding a CB 1300 but visit my old bandit regular.

Cruise Control -

Going to do my best to give you something positive to think about and here it is... Ten month's is not a life time... as a matter of fact it's not even a year. This is all to say that it's not over yet. Things will still improve. I have a good friend who is a plastic surgeon here at UCLA and he also rides. Shortly after my surgery I was be-moaning how things suck for me when he reminded/ told me that bones are very very slow to heal but that they do heal and most often back to full strength. Because of their regenerative property they quite literally go back just they way they were. But again, very slow to heal.

Two years from now it is quite likely you will look back on this time and realize that I was right.

Hang in there.

I know that feeling.  I was in a bad wreck back in April 04.  It put me out for 4 1/2 months and had two surgeries for an adominal injury.  Recovery wasn't easy, but I got through it.

Glad to hear that your getting back to normal. The funky feeling will subside over time and you will start the get feeling back. I had a port put in my chest just below my right collar bone and when I did start to get sensation back one of the first feeling s i ahd was itching from the healing process. As far as bones go a broken bone actually is stronger where the healing has occured many times you are much more likely to break a different section of the bone once it has completely healed.

Hope things keep getting better.
