I thought I would share my insurance shopping information with everyone. I just got a B400 and went to the company that insures my car (State-Farm) and had them add the B4. To my suprise the rate was over $500 a year for limited liability and uninsured motorist.
I didn't think that was right but I left it alone. A couple of days later a friend of mine that is about to get a 83' Kawasaki LTD 440 running said he got a quote from Farmers insurance for $160 a year. That made me pretty mad so I went to Farmers and got a quote. At first they quoted me for $350 which was better but not great. So I had them take off uninsured motorist and it dropped to $125 a year. Well I jumped all over the $125 a year and dropped my insurance for the b4 from State Farm.
I didn't think uninsured motorist would be that much more but obiviously it is. For my car it is only like $60 more a year.

Uninsured costs a LOT in Memphis, TN. I suspect that they can look at a database and see what areas are full of shitheads-er,uh-I mean uninsured drivers.
Memphis is chock full of them, and they all seem to hit me.
About a year ago, the state legislature passed something that required the cops to check for madatory insurance coverage . . . the Memphis Police Department said it would be "cost prohibitive and would take too much time" to do that.
WTF? Too much time? "Proof of insurance, please?" What's that take . . . a second to say? Another minute or two of fruitless searching on the part of the uninsured driver?
I'd hate to pry the lawmen away from the local service stations and from the back areas of the local parks. They look busy chatting up the hick cashiers and sleeping in their cruisers.

In Kansas City, Kansas I pay only $102 a year full coverage for my 96 B6. Also age has a little bit to do with it.
Kansas seems to be cheaper than most areas on older vehicle insurance. Now if I were to get a 2005 B12 I'd be paying a whole lot more.

I only have the minimum liability coverage and I pay about $120 a year. My '81 honda costs $70 a year, so did my '92 FZR600 when I still had it. Don't ask me what the insurance company is, they change their name about once a year.
Insurance rates tend to be pretty cheap here in general. We pay $1000 combined for full coverage on a 2000 Jetta and a '97 Audi A6.

I have full coverage for $94 per year. State minimums on liability and $250 deductibles for comprehensive and collision. I found it at www.bike-line.com .

Yeah, the county you live in has a lot to do with your insurance rate.
When I lived in Florida, my insurance doubled when I moved from Jacksonville, to Tampa. If I had lived 2 miles north in the next county, it would have dropped back down to what i was paying further north.
I guess it's all about the amount of claims they have in that county.
Here in SC, occasionally they do roadblocks on back roads to check for licenses, tags, and insurance.

Here in WA, our courts ruled roadblock checks unconstitutional... over 35 years ago.

You are mostly right. The insurance is kind of based on county but really is determined by your zip code.

They've been challenged and upheld here in PA. We don't need no stinking "Probable Cause" here!

Now that you mention it, that is EXACTLY how they do it. :thanks:

In the 90711 zip code (south LA County) insurance for an '03 B12 ridden by a 37 y/o male, Pacific Specialty Ins. charges $422 per year for full coverage.
If you don't have insurance here in CA the ticket can cost you :duh: $1500 :duh:
Of course if your insurance company is Get Out & Run Inc. you have saved enough on the premium so that you can pay the fine.
California doesn't even need road blocks. There's not a car or driver on the road that a good and scrupulously honest cop can't follow for a mile and not find probable cause to stop. The California vehicle code book is only 3 inches thick

I live in Minneapolis and Progressive covers me with liability and comprehensive insurance for $94 a year. The comprehensive covers fire and theft and up to $3000 in accessories. While no collision coverage is there I'm planning that in an accident it will be the other guy's fault, at least I hope so!

I write auto insurance for a living. It is amazing sometimes to see someone move a block away and since the zip code changes their rates jump a $100.
