Title: Is there b1200 on this site
Post by: Swamp Rat on March 03, 2005, 11:08:54 AM
Just wondering. b1200 won a bid for a corbin seat on ebay and I would like to know what he thinks of the Corbin seat?

I've had my Corbin for almost 4 years now and love it!
Wifey gives props to the backrest!

it's been great riding on it for the past few months.  My gf likes it too.  Most importantly, my lil' buddy  ( ) loves it because it doesn't get squashed anymore at stops, because my gf, who just likes it, doesn't slide into me!
I'd like a backrest too, but they're kinda expensive--I'd rather spend my money on other performance mods!
That's what I think, but who the hell cares what I think!

They take some getting used to.  I rode a B12 with one once and did not care for it.
My buddy has a ZR7S with one and he didn't like it either and sold it.
Some people love it.
You need to go find one to sit on to see for yourself before you shell out the cash.

I've used Corbin seats since 1983 and they're one of the first things I add when I change rides. They do take some breaking in, usually about 300 miles, but are well worth both the bucks and the break-in period. This goes double if you carry a passenger.

Mike did have some quality control issues a couple years back, which seem to have been resolved. He's a nice guy who has always given me good service, and personally seen to the few problems that have arisen over the years. I recommend the seat to all my customers, and have sold quite a few over time, with no complaints.

This opinion and a dollar will almost buy you a Butterfinger, of course.

I've heard of the Corbin break-in before, too. Didn't really notice it on mine though. Some will say it takes ~300 miles for your butt to get used to it more than it takes ~300 miles for the seat to break in.

I picked up mine used from a board member when he decided the Bandit wasn't what he wanted. The seat only had ~60 miles on though, so any "break in" wasn't complete. I was a little worried at first that I wasn't going to like it because it IS firmer than the OEM seat, but after about a half hour I was in love with it. I did get a pretty good deal on the seat & backrest - paid less than the price of a new Corrbin for both the seat & backrest and at only 60 miles, it was practically new. Another plus was the guy lived about 60 miles away, so I just arranged to meet him and pick the seat up live, so I didn't even have to wait for shipping.

Ok dont want the sound dumb but, whats a Corbin seat? I've had my B6 for 6 months now, but only been able to ride it for a week due to not passing my test. So this is all a new game to me. So what is it? and will it make me more happyer? :?:

Corbin (http://www.corbin.com/suzuki/bandit_menu.shtml) is a seat vendor, perhaps the most widely known. (Also makes saddlebags and a few other items.) For the Bandit 600/1200, they make three different seats:
The Smuggler (http://www.corbin.com/suzuki/sbsmug1.jpg)
The Gunfighter (http://www.corbin.com/suzuki/bandg_4.jpg)
and The Gunfighter & Lady (backrest optional) (http://www.corbin.com/suzuki/01bandit1200_2.jpg)

I had a gunfighter and lady seat on my B12 for a few months. I hated that seat. The backrest was nice because my daughter rides with me sometimes.

The seat pocket(place where your butt goes) was too far back for me. IMHO, that seat is better for a rider over 6 feet tall.

FWIW, my Corbin is an off-the-shef version and fits me fine. I'm just shy of six foot. More important than your height, might be your inseam.

If you buy a Corbin new, they will modify the seat one time free. You could save some trouble if you get the chance to sit on a Bandit with one to determine if you need it to be altered ahead of time and order it that way. Also, if you have the opportunity to visit their CA or FL shops, they can custom tailor one to suit you.

Another idea, if anything about a Corbin raises any doubts in your mind is to have your stock seat reworked into something you like better. Most major metro areas will have outfits that will do custom seat work - and they are usually cheaper than Corbin. Check with local bike shops and auto upholstery shops to find out if one is near you.

I think Oremike had great luck with an Oregon custom seat maker too.  I'd give you a link to the thread, but....

Just installed a Corbin Gun Fighter and Lady with the back rest.
This is after sending it back to have the pocket moved forward, the forward area by the tank shaved down and more space for the passenger.
The pocket is now where my 5'4' frame can sit comfortably and my wife loves the back rest.
Will still have to have one more adjustment and that is to the slope of the passenger section so that said wife will not be sliding forward.
Great fit and gets more comfortable with each ride.
