I'd like to see the twisted character signup, but I don't think that's a feature of this boards make-up. I think Pete would have to change us over to a different format.

The board currently does have the visual confirmation, but the numbers aren't twisted.  (That would be a mod (or add-on) This forum actually has really easy to read VC, but that's also to it's detriment, because the bots can read them now too!   through a sort of "OCR" feature.

If we do put a stop on new members for 30 days, maybe it's also worth putting a 'note' on the board explaining why, that way potential members don't get to pi**ed off.

I agree.  That will take Pete's doing as well.

Is there a way to make one of the forums available to new signees, and the rest available once an admin gets a chance to review and approve their account?  That way, we will know that going into that forum runs the risk of getting spam, but if we are careful we can pick out the new users that are legitimately here to ask a question they are in a hurry with and answer them.

It would probably be easier to take legitimate posts and move them out into the proper category then delete the "free for all forum" than it would be to clean the spams one at a time.

Just throwing this out there.  I don't think we should shut down new memberships.

That would be pretty trick but... no.

I do not want to close the board.  New registration now requires Admin approval.  Hopefully, that will at least slow down the spammers.

Sorry to disagree.  I'm not trying to be an upstart, honest.

It can be done, but not in the current state of the board.  There are mods that can be installed to do what he's saying.

This board runs on phpBB as well, and they've done almost exactly what was suggested.  They just don't have the visible fora open to anyone, but that's possible to do too.

Uh... okay... I guess I should have been more clear... While I'm sure such modifications are physically possible, the board, as it is currently configured, does not make that option available to the admin team.  Better????    :monkeymoon:
