Kawasaki Z750 and others
« on: June 08, 2005, 04:59:06 PM »
Just wondering what you guys think of this bike.  The reviews that I've read make it sound like it's a lot like the Bandit, only with the 750cc engine that a lot of us wish Suzuki would offer.

I'm slowly starting to look for a replacement for my B6.  Slowly means probably not for another year or two...  Some of the bikes that I've been drooling over are the B12S, the SV1000S, FZ1, FZ6.  Now the Z750 has come along and caught my eye.

My B6 is my first bike, and I bought it used from a private seller.  I'm wondering if I'd be able to trade it in at a dealer.  It's got 16500 miles on it, a bunch of after market stuff, and has been well cared for.  What kind of trade in can I expect?

Kamil, you probably won't get much for your bike as a trade-in.....unless, the dealer is real hard up for 'affordable' 'clean' used bikes to steer customers toward who can't buy a new bike.
  (Happens...SOMETIMES...)

If you still have the OEM stuff for your bike, you may want to put it back on the bike before you sell it, and sell the aftermarket stuff.
It's hard to get your money's worth out of aftermarket stuff that's on the bike.
A stock, clean, used bike may sell quicker, anyway.

I don't know much about the Z7S, but the ZR7s was a nice bike.

Thanks Pete.  Like I said, I don't think I'll be getting rid of 1.5 (my B6) just yet, but I kind of wanted to know what I'll have to work with.  By the end of this summer, my odo will probably be reading 20K+, and I know that it'll be tougher to sell the more I put on her, so I figure it's logical to start thinking about trading in.

I really dig the standards.  I like the fact that I can get to the parts with ease, don't have to worry about scratching up the plastics, and like that there's less demand for them on the black market.  Leaving your bike in my city is always a tough event, because you just never know if it'll be there when you come back, no matter how many locks you put on it.  Anything with a full fairing has a high demand, so sports bikes are never an option.  The comfort of standards is also a major plus.  My rides are almost always 2 hours plus, and the guys on sports bikes are dieing while I feel great (the Sargent seat helps a lot).

By the way, thought I'd explain why the bike is named 1.5.  My other half is my #1.  I couldn't bring myself to make the bike #2.

The z1000 (if you can stretch to it) is a beautiful bike, and has better quality components than the 750, that said, the 750 got fantastic reviews in any magazine i read, i was contemplating one, until i saw the 1000 in the flesh beside the 750, in a year or two when my damn license is unrestricted i'll be looking at them with great interest.

I like the 1000 as well, but I don't think they offer it with a fairing here in the states.  The next best alternative would be the FZ1.

Yeah, the bike is sexy as hell.  A friend of mine has the Z1000 that's available here, and it's got a quad exhaust.  A little weird in my opinion, but the design is beautiful.

Personally, I would definitely want the front fairing.  As most of my riding is done a little north of the posted limit, I think those long rides would tire me out from battling the wind.  Also, I want a little more of a back seat.  I ride with pillion a lot, so it's an issue.

They are a nice bikes both the 750 and the 1000. Handle real smart and go like well, lest just say HARD I found the 1000 in stock trim very quick into and out of corners, in fact I think the first words outta my mouth after a ride through our local twisties was " It handles like a sports 250" whilst trying so hard to mask a huge shyte eating grin.
The difference is like the 1000, is the caddy and the 750 is the porche.
Remembering here in Oz the price difference is around the 3 gorilla's, what do you get for the extra 3 gorilla's. 250cc, 10hp and  inverted forks.
For that 3 gorilla's a power commander new slip on muffler, and some dyno time, and your in the same Hp game as the 1000, and ya still have 1 and a half gorrilla's to spend in the hip pocket. I know ya gonna miss out on the upside down forks, and I know they are all the rage for both looks and race, but I kinda like the fork oil down the bottom of the fork leg, so when the seals are not quite as good as the should be, they dont go dumping the good oil in big unhealthy loads very time the front end loads up. But having said that, I do like the 1000, and spend a bit more on a power commander, a new 4 into 1 and can and some dyno time, i'm sure it would then lose some of that laid back caddy feeling, and be pumping out some real kick butt hp.
A true, off the shop floor on to the road streetfighter,  I reckon the best streetfighter targeted motorcyle produced thus far from japan.

Except here in the US, we don't get the bikini faired Z750, we get the 3/4 faired Z750S

And at $7099 MSRP, it's in the same price category as the $7399 MSRP B12S

A local dealer I know ( I tiled his show room, his house, bought the Bandit,a 160atv,befor that a gsx1100g)is always waiting for me to replace my 98 Bandit. He was pointing out the z1000 and asked how I thought my bike would fair against it. My relpy" I quess it depends on whos riding it. Bring it on,if you can beat me I'll consider it." Now he's pointing out the Z10. I told him I'll wait till they build a new dealership, and I have something to tile.( wich is in the scheme of things, they have to sell the old building 1st).

yeah, i'm not a huge fan of the gold quad pipes that come stock on it, but when i saw that pic i posted above with the 4-1 and carbon can i fell in love, it's just an engine and a seat, strapped to some shiney bits.

I'm going to upgrade from my B6 probably next spring.  Which bike?  I've looked and read a lot.  The Yamaha FZ1 is a real stand out, its done well in bike comparos.  Its like the B12 but a little more advanced.  Holeshot also sells all the goodies for it.  I will probably go with a B12 as I know the bikes well and you can get them for a good price.  There are lots of new 04s and 05s out there and some nice used ones for under $5k.
