Is $60/hr. reasonable?
-
:beers:

It's $70 hr for bikes in Calgary Alberta, and my car dealership charges $120 an hour. But then Calgary is in a oil boom and parking a car downtown cost $350 a month for week days only.

Is that US$70/hour ?? If not, I'd be careful about that, Greyhound. We were charging C$85.00/hour last season at the independent repair shop that I work at and most of the big-box stores were charging at least C$95.00/hour.
I'd bet that you'll see the big-box guys cracking the C$100.00/hour mark THIS season.....Bend over and smile, Calgary riders.....

always get a quote for the entire job in writing, not by the hour.

It's amazing how many people get caught out by not getting a quote/estimate on parts as well as labour.....
In Oz the rates can vary greatly, I've seen some as low as $45/hr (too cheap) up to as high as $120/hr.
A bloke I know reckons (don't know if it's true) that he put his wifes Honda in for a service and was charged $70/hr, then the next week put his BMW in for a service, at the same shop, and it cost him $95/hr - same mechanic. When he queried it, he was told that there was extra training involved for BMW's so they charged a higher rate....he now goes to a different shop.

It's not reasonable, it's a fact!

Based on the replies I would say that $60 is more than reasonable.

Example of a local dealers service charge.
30,000km (6000km by the book) service
Labour $120.00
Consumables $49.34
Parts $39.35
Total $208.69 + GST
And, what did they do for $208.69
Replace Engine Oil and Filter
Replace Clutch Fluid and Clean Master Cylinder
Replace Rear Brake Fluid
Check Steering Bearing Tension
Adjust Chain
Check tyre pressures
Check Cable freeplay
Check Lights operation
Lube pivot points
Check Brake Pads
Check Chassis Bolts
Overall check of bike
Test and Wash
From my experiance that's about the average for a UJM.
