Title: Left-turners!
Post by: billster on September 05, 2005, 05:31:03 AM
ANOTHER one!  This is one of two in this morning's paper on Long Island.  It's getting like riding in a shoebox stuffed with rats around here.  4-5 per week and usually involves a high-end lux car or SUV.  :duh:

Not that it doesn't happen everywhere, but because of LI drivers, I waited 'til I was off the island before picking up the bike.  They can't see my 20' truck with strobes, why would I expect them to see a bike.

Police have filed no charges.

However, he said, "the investigation is ongoing" and police are still interviewing witnesses.

At this point, it appears as though the driver of the sedan "may have misjudged the flow of traffic."

No shit, or was too damn impatient to wait for an opening, and just went for it! :banghead:
This is one of the more common accidents.
I didn't see the usual 'didn't see him' reference.
  Ticket, or prosecute these people.

I think it's the fact that mcys. have a single headlight that confuses the driver at times as to speed/distance/closure rate.   I always have my high beam on.  If approaching a left turner, and I'm in doubt as to whether the driver is going to shoot across, I'll weave the bike in the lane to get the driver's attention and plan on diving to the center lane if he does make the turn.  There's little relaxing riding lately.

Haha, when I read the thread title, "Left-turners", I thought it would be about Nascar fans or Nascar drivers.

Traffic accidents suck.
