Title: License plate light.

Is it required that bikes need a license plate light? I know this is probably a state specific question. Dale Walkers plate kit doesnt include one and most riders who have modified their tail section and moved their plate dont have one either. Are people just rolling the dice or am I a worry wart?

I had something similiar to that on my first bandit. I just would prefer to run as little wiring as possible. Im kinda over adding things to the bandit. I really want to strip it down to as little as possible and keep things simple.

Technically I believe your license plate is supposed to be "illuminated".  Just a technicality and one of those things that if a cop is looking for something to pull you over for, they have a right to stop you for inadequate equipment.   However, if you're riding in the daytime they will never know and even stock, the license light is so dim you can't see it anyway.

In Texas they would not give me an inspection sticker for my "cleaned up" VX800 until I fabbed a clear panel into the bottom of my tail light to illuminate the plate.

No,  after seven years and 32,000 unforgettable miles I sold the "Massey-Ferguson."  The name evolved after three years of explaining to everyone who saw it - what it was.  I finally gave up and most of the people who asked after I made the phony Massey-Ferguson labels for the gas tank didn't question me.  The bike went Tx to Ohio 5 times, once to Canada, twice, or was it three times? to the Wash. DC area - basically it went everywhere between TX and the east coast.  When I get to my other computer I will try to post a picture of its last incarnation - I painted it three times while I had it.  My usual line for that bike was; "one rough around the edges motorcycle - $2,100, one breakdown and a round-trip airline ticket - $430, seven years of unforgettable memories - Priceless!"

Roamr, In North Carolina, the license plate light is required.

Need one in Pa. too for insp. But I doubt you'd have any problem in Ohio.I've seen cars/trucks about to fall apart on the road in Ohio and N.Y. You don't even have saftey insps. in Ohio,do you? Also the turn signals intergrated in the tail lights in the undertail kits don't pass the Pa. insp.(unless you know someone)
