Y'all ain't gonna believe this
« on: May 04, 2007, 05:52:46 PM »
I just got a 97 Bandit on Tuesday. Today, I cleaned and adjusted the chain, cleaned the bike up some, and pulled the tank off to see if I could get the fuel gauge to work. I decided to check the air filter to see if it need cleaning. When I removed the cover from the airbox, corn started falling out. I guess I discovered a winter home for a mouse. The airbox was about half full of insulation, corn, and what looks like rabbit food. Oh, I also discovered that I have a K & N filter, but no holes in the airbox, so I guess it doesn't have a jet kit installed.

Maybe this link will work

LMAO!! That's great!! Believe it or not though,.. not the first time I've heard of stuff being in the airbox.  Funnier still with your screen name...

Maybe it wasn't a nest,... maybe it was an "organic limiter" kit....

:congrats: on the bike btw!  And  :welcome: to the Alley!

And *that's* why you have a filter!  Imagine sucking a mouse or two through the engine!

How else do you get them into the little exercise cages to run and move the bike along??

Last spring when I went to get the Bandit ready to ride I found the under seat storage tray full of bird seed. The wife has a couple of feeders in the back yard & sometime over the winter a mouse had gotten to the bird feed & was storing in it my Bandit.

The rest is OK. I cleaned and lubed the chain, sprockets look good. Good tires, has an Avon on the back, and a Bridgestone on the front. I don't think the carbs need cleaning. I'll eventually put a pipe and a jet kit on it, but that will probably be a while. It only has 10,400 or so on it.

Heck, I bought a bike about 15 years ago that still had 3 mice in their cozy nest in the battery box when I got it home and opened up the seat. Imagine my surprise !!!
2 years later I was taking the pipes off that same bike to start work on it and thought "Wow....these pipes feel real heavy!!!". The mufflers turned out to be chock full of canola seed.    I got about 3 or 4 pounds out of each muffler. The bike's "occupants" were ready for a lonnnnggggg winter, apparently.

Nope, the bike had been off the road since 1980 when I bought it so who knows how long the little devils had been filling the mufflers up. The guys at the shop had a good laugh when I was emptying out the mufflers, though. I actually filled up a 12" x 12" x 12" cardboard box with the seeds. The birds around the shop were sure happy for awhile.....
