Biker cited for going 176 mph
The North Dakota Highway Patrol believes it may have a new speeding record.
Capt. Mark Bethke said Vitaliy Poberezchnik, 19, was about 10 miles east of Bismarck on Interstate 94 Friday when he was clocked at 176 mph on his motorcycle.
"That's probably the highest we've ever had," Bethke said.
He said Poberezchnik turned his 2006 Suzuki back toward Bismarck at the McKenzie interchange. A trooper was waiting for him on Highway 10, Bethke said.
Bethke did not know if Poberezchnik was wearing a helmet.
Poberezchnik also was charged with reckless driving and received a $505 ticket, Bethke said.
Bethke said Poberezchnik has 14 days to pay the fine and is slated to appear in court on June 6 on the reckless driving charge.
Poberezchnik, of Lincoln, was not available for comment.

This story was on the front page of yesterdays local newspaper. The young man who was busted lives a couple blocks from my house. Comments from someone who knows him posted on a local site after the story was published, suggested he actually was going 211 before he was clocked. Don't know if I should believe that part.

Hell... If I lived in North Dakota I'd drive 176mph all the time too.
What's the big deal?

And some @sshole would tailgate you the whole time!

Maybe a ND record, but still lower than the poor kid that got the ticket for 205 on a stock RC51 that was dyno-proven to top out in the 180's... and there's no wind resistance or rider to deal with on a dyno, so real top speed would be even lower.
-
I was just reading an article on the New Kaw 1400. The top speed is regulated at 187 mph, I think the Busa is the same. I'm glad they've done this, I'd much rather crash at 187 than 200 mph
-
I'm sure if you install a Power Commander, you'll have the option of crashing at speeds closer to 200. The first-year Hayabusas weren't speed limited and went >187, and new ones will, too - with the PC mod.
-
I was reading the Cycle World article a little closer and the speed limitation is sort of a truce among the mfgs. It makes more sense in metric, 300 kph. Just dialed into the computer and I'm sure the PC can override it.
-
Yup, sort of a voluntary self-imposed regulation done to prevent lawmakers from doing it for them.
Most of the cars today have their tops speeds limited by their computers, too... helps to preserve pecking order so cheaper cars won't go faster than more expensive models from the same maker.
-
I read that the European Union banned motorcycles that exceed 300 kph
-
My bike is wallet-limited to 90mph.
I can't afford a ticket bigger than that.

Nope, there's only France, where else  , that has any power restriction - 100hp max. No speed restrictions at all, apart from cameras and cops that is.

Hi
As mentioned there is no top speed limit of cars or bikes sold in Europe.
Hear that a Koenigsegg got caught doing 242mph in the USA.
All the best

Here in ireland there is a limit to the speed the bikes can go. The Busa is limited to 300kmh, all bikes that are able to do over 300kmh are factory restricted to 300kmh. Most people just undo the restriction anyways. which is pointless cos we dont have the roads good enough over here to get the 300kmh out of the bike let alone anything higher than that.

...you have to be from Texas to appreciate tailgating. It is the official sport of Texas.

Sorry to get slightly off subject, but that’s like the Arian bitch from TOG (Traffic Operations Group)who tried to book me for doing 180 kph in a 80 kph zone, in the old family car, a 1976 GMH Holden Kingswood Station wagon, with a stock standard 202 cubic inch straight six motor, with a quarter of a million miles on the clock, man thrown from a C130 at 40,000 feet, it still wouldn’t clock up 180 Kph and if it did it would be a record that GMH would be proud of.
You know some bitches just don’t know when to back off, when they are bull shyting through their teeth, when I insisted that the car be impounded straight away, so the courts could inspect the car and have it tested, to prove she was an insult to her profession.
She wanted to lower the booking speed, to a speed the old clunker would achieve.
When I pointed out to her that every word spoken was being over heard on a hands free car installed cell phone, and when my boss spoke up a in parrot fashion repeated every word she had spoken, see got all poohy and told me to f off, and how she would be watching me, and how she was going to nail my ass. Just for the record, I’m still waiting for the freak Arian Bitch to try, mind you I have not seen her around. And I drive past their TOG headquarters at least 12 times a day.

Not a legal restriction though, just an agreement between the bike makers.

Yep same here but you can buy over the counter a plug in unit that in the case of the busa. The plug-in tells the engine management system, that its in a lower gear, even in top, so you get full advance, and full juice to the injectors, bye bye to the 300kph restriction. So simple a nuff nuff can install it.

I thought the only two sports in Texas were football, and Spring football
