Hi I'm looking at a 2002 Bandit 1200S but am concerned about that dreaded oil burning issue. The bike is listed as a 2002 SK3. WHich is puzzling considering from 2001 it goes SK1 - 2001, SK2 - 2002, SK3 - 2003, etc. Could the dealer be explaining that this model while being a 2002 came with the revised pistons with the smaller oil holes? Weird. Here is a link to the bike
http://www.mcbridecycle.com/pre-owned.php
click on bandit 1200 at bottom. The bike has not a scratch on it and comes with engine guards and some other stuff with 17,000 KMS on it. Just looking now but may be trading up bikes soon. I talked to a guy there my friend bought some bikes from and he says he can probably give me a better deal than is listed.

AS FAR AS THE AGE OF THE BIKE GOES REMEMBER THE NEW MODEL IS USUALLY OUT BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR.I.E. A 2003 MODEL BUILT IN LATE 2002. AS FOR OIL USAGE, DON'T BE FOOLED INTO THINKING ALL BANDITS ARE A PROBLEM. MY '97 DOESN'T USE A DROP . JUST LOOK FOR OBVIOUS SIGNS [WET EXHAUST OULET, DAMP JOINS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE MOTOR ETC.] THEN GET ON ONE AND PREPARE TO SMILE A LOT!!

I'm pretty sure the oil burning problem you are referring to is specific to 2001 models, and not all of them even.

I believe it is all 01s and some 02s. CLICK HERE (http://forums.banditalley.net/viewtopic.php?t=276) for details from the B12 FAQs

Thanks I'll check the serial number. I thinkl it's listed this way to imply that it has the new/older pistons. I'll head out there one weekend and look at the VIN #. I want one of these puppies I hear they have pretty good power even stock.

My B12 is a 2002. It doesn't use a drop of oil. In fact, I've had zero problems with this bike. It is a good solid ride that I take anywhere and everywhere.

Here is my 2 cents worth....
I bought a 2005 NEW 6,495.00 With tax delivery and out the door for 7,300.00
zero miles.....

Yeah thats 10 grand canadian. I'm paying all cash can't get credit. I'm not probably buying this one was just weird about the monikers. 6200(5000 US)is not bad with only 10,000 miles on it and not a scratch on it. THe person who owned it before obviously took care of it. I could get it probably down to 5500. WHich is about what you pay in Toronto and at least it comes with a warrenty for 90 days, so if its f@cked it will be fixed.

I have a 2002 GSF1200SK2 and live in Brampton. have not had any oil issues whatsoever.
if it's a 2002 it should be a K2 not a K3
price seems a little steep. i paid $10K out the door new and the list price has dropped $2K since then. The aftermarket exhaust could and $1K, just make sure it haas been jetted. they should be able to dyno a/f it for you.
BTW if it has the mac 90 tires get them replaced before you buy.

Price seems high for a used bike.. Personally I'd stay away from everything and anything from the oil burning era. There are better choices out there..
But then I feel I got burned on this one as I drive an '01 B12 oil burner myself!
