Title: Looking at some 600s
Post by: KSUGreggy on March 09, 2006, 06:16:54 PM
looking a couple options for getting into a new bandit.  I jsut sold that honda hawk i had bought for almost 800 more htan i bought it for a week ago and i couldnt pass up doing that esp bc TWO bandit 600s just went up for sale within two blocks of me here.

The first on is a navy 1999 S w/ 7600 miles and a V&H slip on.  Not sure about if it has a jet kit or other mods but its CLEAN and looks amazing.  He is asking 3200 but i KBB'd the bike at about 2135 and we were gonna start negotiation there tonight i think.

The second is a red 1996 S w/ 13,000 miles.  All stock.  Bike has been dropped but never layed over (i.e fell off kickstand etc etc).  Rear cowl looks to need paint as does front fender and half fairing sine none matches tank.  He was asking 1900 but KBB showed about 1800.

Anything i shoudl look for in particular....used to own a bandit 400 but not familiar with the 600s.  What do you think is a resonable price for both bikes that i could do?

You sold that pretty Hawk already?     I would have played with it a little more.  I'll bet you could have turned that nice profit on it any time you wanted.  Good luck!

i know man...actually i played with her for 2 weeks...long enough to see the fork seals leaking, the petcock starting to leak, see a need for a new rear chain and sprockets (which is bad bc he had just replaced them a year ago), realize at about 45 through a turn that the owner had upsized the rear tire only from 150-160 and kept the frotn the same....gave it a nasty wobble/wallowing in the corner and scared the piss outta me, and know i needed a new instrument panel/speedo set up bc the stock was trashed when the PO wrecked the bike.

It was a good deal for me espcially when i saw the the two bandits near me go for sale esp this 1999 one...rode her today and it was awesome...im gonna hear back from him tommarrow on my offer.  I bet i coudl have a turned a profit on the hawk too just about anytime but once that blue bandit stuck up a FS sign i knew i wanted bc i had been admiring it everytime it rode by me this year.

Besides...i sold the hawk w/ the OEM seat as the guy didnt want the corbin seat as well so im selling it on ebay...last one went for close to $170 in worse shape! so really im gonna make a few more bucks to pay for taxes and registration on the new bike.   The hawk was a nice bike and fun to ride till i found that shake out but I think the PO left alot of info out/crappy maitnence which i wish i had picked up on.  This other guy had already had a hawk or two so he didnt mind the work to get it.

They the 600's are great bikes, I personally reckon they are the ducks guts, in all departments. They got plenty of get up and go, they handle sweet, and personally reckon the B6 in the shed is far the best all round fun bike I've ever owned, In fact if there is any aussies who have one in reasonable nick, I've got an 1100 ZRX streetfighter, I'll swap.

Nothing you wouldn't look for in anything used. Ask if it's been re-jetted and if so, what kit and what settings, if they know. That way if you should have any troubles, you'll know what your baseline is.
Title: B6

I think the B6 is a great value.  The big 4 have all come out with a 600 with Kawa coming out with a new Ninja 650.  Honda even brought back its 599.  I got reading the specs and they have nothing on the B6.  To keep prices low the suspensions are the same, the only real difference is that most have fuel injection.  All are in the $7,000 range.  Buy a B6 for $1,800, read up on the mods here (you can do them for about $300, a little over $500 with tires) and you will have a 600 that is right up there with the current crop.

sounds like the 1999 has sold  .  I'm seriously considreing this 96 bandit bc 13k isnt too much in my book.  My question for you B6 owners is how much woudl this bike be worth.  Mechanically its completely stock.  The bike needs a new left front turn signal, new rear and front or a rear only (depends if i want a different style of tire), new chain, and the front half fairing, front fender and rear seat cowl (surrounding the seat) is all a different color (lighter, faded shade of red) from the tank and frame, alos the seat has a small rip.  Bike has been dropped off kickstand a few times.

KBB has value at 1800.  NADA low retail (which is how i value based on the condition is 1475.  What do you guys think i should offer....he is asking 1900.

I'd offer him something lower than low-book, say ~$1200, and try to get it for no more than ~$1500. If he won't go, look for something else.

It's VERY easy to go naked on a 1G.  Just unbolt the fairing and install a headlight & blinkers.

The 2G is more involved since the instuments are in the fairing on the S models, so you have to fab up an instrument mount.

Yes, it usually is. There's frequently someone here or over at Max-Suz that's looking for parts or the whole thing to repair crash or tip-over damage... then there's always ebay - and you're likely to get more for it there.
