Title: Low priced OEM Suzuki parts (in the USA)
Post by: Red01 on May 14, 2008, 04:42:50 AM
The other day, just out of curiousity, I did a little surfing to see about who has low priced OEM Suzi parts.  I found several that had prices lower than Ron Ayers, who is weel known for having lower than average prices.
For this experiment, I used part numbers for GSXR cams.  Results for other parts may be different as to who is lowest, so if you're going to mail order, you might want to check them all.

Tested part numbers:
1. 1989 GSXR750 & 1100, GSX1100F Katana Intake Cam, p/n: 12711-06B90
2. 1989 GSXR750 & 1100, GSX1100F Katana Exhaust Cam, p/n: 12721-06B90
3. Alternate 1989 GSXR750 Exhaust Cam, p/n: 12721-17C90

http://www.holeshot.com/ (They don't list these by Suzuki p/n's, but I'm pretty sure this is what Dale is selling.)
1. $189.00
2. n/a
3. $199.00 (pkg price, both for $369.00)

http://www.ronayers.com/index.cfm Greenville, NC
1. $161.83
2. $161.83
3. $164.77

http://www.mrcycles.com Asheville, NC
1. $145.64
2. $145.64
3. $148.29

http://www.crotchrocket.com Jonesboro, AR
1. $142.97
2. $142.97
3. $145.57

http://www.boulevardsuzuki.com Deland, FL
1. $142.18
2. $142.18
3. $144.76
Interesting thing about Boulevard Suzuki is it is run by Deland Motorsports (http://www.delandmotorsports.com/) and if you look up the same parts thru the Deland site, they are >$20 more per p/n.

Anyone have any other low priced sources?
(Bike Bandit doesn't even come close to Ron Ayers on anything I've ever looked up.)

One thing I've found is that some online OEM part suppliers will have low prices, but jack up the shipping.  Check shipping costs before placing your order.  My two best sources are Crotchrocket and Flatoutmotorcycles.

Flatoutmotorcycles (http://www.http://www.flatoutmotorcycles.com/fiche_select.asp)

CAM SHAFT, INTAKE (12711-06B90 )  $145.07

That's a good point, but only one site, M&R Cycles, gave shipping costs on-line (at least without going thru the motions of making a purchase, which I didn't do).  They based shipping on $$ spent, so for 2 cams it would've been $24.  Boulevard is having a special on shipping at the moment and shipping is free on orders >$400.

I can usually beat RA a little on price. But the ones in the $140 range, I can not.

OK... based on this thread, I placed an order yesterday through MR Cycles.  It was CHEAP! It was so cheap that when I got to thinking about it later, I double checked the fische and of course I ordered the wrong damned thing.  So, I called there today to see if I could correct it.  Holy crap!  They were COMPLETELY unhelpful.  Basically, "we placed the order already.  Sorry."  [loooooong silence]  "Ok.  Thanks."  No offer to help.  He didn't ask if I wanted to order the RIGHT thing.  Nuthin'.  I'm totally pissed.....

I recommend crothrocket for service as well.

I ordered a replacement gas tank from them.

I got it and it was dented in the front because the factory Suzuki box wasn't big enough for the tank. (Not the fault of Crotchrocket)

Crotchrocket rep on the phone was very helpful, talked to his boss... they ordered me another tank, paid for all shipping, and they even packed the new tank in a bigger box to prevent it from getting dented again.

Exactly my experience with MR.  Customer service is, shall we say, lacking.  I've gotten good pricing (note the word good rather than great) and fantastic customer service from Midwest Action Cycles (in Wisconsin I think).  The guys that take your order over the phone are very knowledgeable and helpful.  In addition, their policies about returns, cancellations, etc. are very liberal.  Just my .02.
