winter work and puttering
« on: December 19, 2009, 08:44:44 AM »
I've had the Bandit on the lift at my buddy's shop. I cleaned out the forks, put in new oil and dust seals, fresh 5wt (recomended wt w/ the RT gold valves) Installed a set of used throttle cabbles that were in better shape than mine after lubing them up good.Cleaned up the carbs (out side, didn't open them up) and gave me a chance do get in behind the motor and do some cleaning and paint touch up.
Now I have the seat at home looking at it and desiding how I want to change it. I want to cut down the back a little and add to to the front af the passenger portion staying with the lines of the seat. My wife doesn't like the stock seat because it makes her slide foward so I want to level it out for her and make it look more like the hump similar to the SCRAD gixer look. But maybe a little flatter on top for the passenger. Then make the new cover with leather or sweade.
The plastics and tank really need a paint job too. The previous painter owes me a favor (laid a big patio in sand out of slab marble for him) But he has come up short on deals with others. I have to see if he'll man up or go on to the list of shame and do it myself.

A little more puttering yesterday, cleaning, took the rest of the body plastics off for the paint. Lots of rubbing on the Holeshot header and mid pipe.

Got a chance to do more puttering after work here and there. More cleaning,(nooks and garnnys around the motor and frame) A through  frame down would be nice to do,but I'm on a low Budget both in $ & time. But maybe in a another year or 2 I'll do it if I feel like doing any upgrade w/ the motor. Also put in fresh Motal syn. I know its expensive, but I've been running it in the bike almost after breakin at the end of 98. My paint man said I can bring in the body parts after the 1st of the year. COOL! I don't have $ but he owse my a favor. Not getting elborete (sp?) and want to match what I have that doesn't need redone. And put a couple bullet holes in where the dent in the tank is. Instead of trying to hide the scars I want to make them with stiches (actuly is a saftey wire stich on the front right side.Or scars with maybe a a drop of blood somewhere.Or maybe not, I'll leave it up to my painter. Last time I had no idea what he was going to do. Just said do what you want and it was a pleasant surprise (awsome) for me!
Hopefully I'll get some time to do something over the weekend. Turn it around on the lift,so I can work on the back of the bike.(clean the chain and wheel ect) Get some of the fresh Motul through the vains and then run the carbs dry. Empty the tank befor I take it in.
Wishing you all a happy Ney Year !  Dan
