Demo'ed Buell's the other day...
« on: July 18, 2007, 04:11:23 PM »
Was out for a spin on the Bandit and had some time to kill so I stopped at the local HD dealership...have always wanted to try out a buell so I did.  (gotta love the HD places for actually having demo bikes!!!)  I had to yell at the sales manager to get a salesman to talk to me...but after that was behind us it was interesting.
First off...I won't be selling my aircooled Bandit for a aircooled narrow angle v-twin any time soon.
Power delivery and torque wasn't bad...I kept hitting the rev' limiter...acceleration and pull felt similar to my Bandit with all its mods but with a 6500 rpm limit.
The Ulysses was amazingly comfortable and except for the speedo/tach/gauges (one blinking light for BOTH turn signals...c'mon guys its 2007) I would probably choose that over a BMW adventure tourer or the Suzuki.  Not my bag though...too much street-worthyness compromises for some bit of offroad ability.
It was weird being so over the front of the bike to not be able to see the front tire but the handling was very confidence inspiring.  The brakes were AMAZING.  If there was one thing that stood out on the bike, that was it.  The feel and modulation ability was sweet and they stopped the bike VERY well.
That said...when the new buell with the v-rod motor comes out...they will actually have a legitimate sport bike on their hands...(almost 150hp, water cooled, 10,500 red line, 6 speed tranny).

I just assumed due to its v-angle and water cooling it was essentially the v-rod motor...my bad...

Erik says the V-Rod motor is too big (exteranl dimensions) and heavy for his bikes.
