State police: Motorcyclist hit 162 miles an hour during chase
THENDARA, N.Y. A central New York man was issued a slew of tickets after state police clocked him going more than 160 miles an hour during a chase along an Adirondack road.
A state trooper said he spotted 22-year-old Jeremiah Castello of Cassville, near Utica, going nearly 90 miles per hour on Route 28 near Old Forge in Herkimer County on Sunday.
Authorities say Castello rocketed his Suzuki G-S-X-R 13-Hundred Hayabusa up to a top speed of 162 miles an hour while being pursued by the trooper. The biker stopped when he got hung up in traffic on the two-lane road just outside Old Forge.
Castello was charged with reckless driving and operating a motorcycle without the proper license.
Route 28 is known for its deer crossings, but troopers say at the speeds he was driving, even a squirrel in the road could have spelled disaster for Castello.
