Title: New Bandit owner with questions
Post by: mccstevie on April 23, 2005, 10:49:06 PM
Hello all, just picked up a 2003 1200S brand new leftover. It has done nothing but rain since I took it off the truck. Was wandering if anyone has changed to a taller handlebar and if so what brand and rise did you get? Also, I have seen other Bandits with a front fender extension on the back side. Where can I get one of these? I am looking forward to riding this machine and I am so happy to find a site like this. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2003 naked Bandit 1200 and have raised the handlebars and brought them back a bit by using Gen-Mar <www.gen-mar.com> set backs.  They cost about $135 and come with a longer brake line that MUST be used with the set backs.

I further installed a longer bolt and a 1 inch spacer between the top triple tree and the nandlebar mounts.  This required rerouting the throttle and brake cables to a position behing the front forks -- not too difficult, but a bit time consuming.

I like the more upright seating position and have a Slipstreamer Enterprise hendlerbar mount fairing to break the wing and cover my knees and shins.  I use my Bandit mostly in a touring mode so these changes were almost mandatory for me.

I would recommend the Holeshot Risers.  I've had them on both my bandits and love em.

You can also swap your bars for first generation B12 bandit handle bars (1996-2000).  This will give you some additional rise.  I used this in combination with the HS risers on my 2G bike and they worked great together.  I saw a set on e-bay the other day for 20 bucks.

I now have a 1G B12 with HS risers.  You can see a photo at the link below.  If you would like to see a photo of this same stuff on a 2G bike (like yours), I can post that too.

You can also get a Pyramid Fenda Extenda at Holeshot as well.  See link below for a photo of one on my bike.

Thanks for the info, I checked out Holeshot and I saw pictures of Dave's  B12. I also got more ideas, which I knew I would here. Still waiting for the weather to clear. Dying to break it in.
