Title: New Bandit
Post by: SHREDDER on October 03, 2006, 02:59:47 AM
I just checked out the 07' Bandit at the Suzuki website and under the specs its listed at 505 lbs!  WTF!  That seems a bit much but does anyone know what a 1G or 2G 1200 weigh?

The O6 Suzuki 1200 (which you American's didn't get cause the Japanese love us more) weighs in at 474 lbs dry. (They state the same weight for the ABS version)

So it appears the addition of the water cooler adds 26 lbs. I am sure the new 07 will come equipped with a catalytic converter which will add about 7 lbs.

Now just add 35 to 50 lbs. for shaft drive and you've got the perfect bike!
Title: Americans.....?

Not to get off topic.....ok, it's off topic. But, Since both the United States of America AND Canada are on the continent of North "America", aren't we all really classified as...."Americans"? I asked that same question to another Canadian person I met once and she abrubtly and quite agitatedly responded NO! Sorry, but I just don't get that. Sorry, didn't mean to stir the pot, but we really, really are all North Americans you know. And, maybe the Japanese do love you more because you didn't bomb them really badly a couple times. :monkeymoon:

North Americans . . . we're all North Americans.

To remove the "North" part you have to be from the U.S. of A.

To continue this off-topic discussion on "Americans" . . .

When I was a teen (way back in the Dark Ages), I spent 3 months touring Mexico and Central America with my parents and younger sister. A month of that was spent living in Costa Rica near their Pacific coast port of Puntarenas. (Our motorhome broke down with transmission problems and it took that long to get parts.) Anyway, when I was asked where I was from, if I responded with "America" they would respond heartily that they were Americans, too... so I learned to tell them I was from "Estados Unidos."

So maybe Canadians don't like to think of themselves as "Americans," but those south of the US border, do.

Let's just keep it real here. Anybody that lives on this side of the world, is an American. North America, Central America and South America. Sorry you Canadians are insulted by this, and I don't know why, but it's just simply the truth. You're stuck with the title because of where you live whether you like it or not. But, just to keep you pacified, we won't call you "Americans". You're still Canadians as Mexicans are still "Mexicans" and Brazilians are still "Brazilians", yada yada yada.

But maybe the right direction for a sport/tourer?  Maybe?  A little more weight = a little better long distance ride?  Seems to me that the more touring you do, the more having a heavier bike is a wise idea.

I could be wrong.

Technically, all South, Central & North American's are considered American's.

Canadian's tend to travel a great deal (mush more per capita than American's) and deny the fact they are "American's" as they are usually treated badly for a host of reasons. Personally I think most of the world is envious of the United States of America, and this is why most American's get treated badly when they travel. In fact, there are many travelling American's who will actually sew a Canadian flag on their back packs just to vaoid confrontation.

I did spend a great deal of time in the tourist business, and my observations were (and I am not trying to be insulting here) quite confrontational in nature, and not at all scared to voice their opinions. I am not saying this is a bad thing, its just that a lot of people consider this a rude thing. (Australians are probably number two on the list). Now I have met a lot of American tourists that while in another country, expect to be treated just like they would be in the U.S. and of course you can understand how that goes over. I have also met many more very nice American tourists than bad ones, but of course you always remember the bad ones.

Now I have a passport filled with the stamps of many countries, and I have been mistaken as a U.S. resident many times. Usually it's not a warm greeting as that person has a bone to pick with the US over some policy issue. Now most Canadian's would rather avoid a confrontation as they can't be bothered spending their holiday arguing with some ditz about why America is in Iraq for instance, so it's just easier to say, "I am not American".

There is a "hate America" thing begining to happen in Canada with the teenage & 20 something crowd. (but of course that age group hates everything) Wenever I hear that I personally get pretty red & the face and aske them if they would rather have China or maybe North Korea as neighbors.

But really, Canadian's do love American's.

I honestly expected to take some heat from the locals here in France for being an American. US media paints a picture of how the majority of France is very much against current US foriegn policy, so I expected some feedback because of this. I've been pleasantly surprised by not only the friendliness towards me by all (certainly NOT the case when I was in France along the Med. coast in 1978), but the conversations I've had with English-speaking locals is the complete opposite of what I expected. These French people actually support the US and think their gov't is being weak by trying to pacify everything. Maybe it's just this part of France, or maybe it's something more common with the English-speaking French population, I don't know. But I've never felt a need to make any apologies for being an American - or pretend I'm Canadian.

As for the youth of Canada hating Americans... I think they have something in common with the youth of the United States.

If any foreigner is asinine enough to hate me because my government is doing stuff they don't like, then go for it.  Just best not get in my face about it.     You know, we elect people to represent us, then they pretty much do what they want and leave us to b!tch about it!  We're not a pure democracy by far, after all.

I certainly have opinions about certain things various governments do, or don't do, including Canada, but would I hate a Canadian average Joe for it?  No.  I'm not that stupid.

I operate the same way with foreigners as I do with my fellow Americans, which means I pretty much avoid conversations about race, religion, and politics.  I teach that to my children, too.  Keep those things to yourself, live your life right, and vote your conscience at election time.

I heard and felt enough cr@p as a child of an Austrian immigrant after WWII (a little to close to being one of the evil Germans) to treat others that way.

Peace.

 You want Off topic A! Too much info these days and too fast! Media got to keep the ratings up and stir the pot with the juicy stuff. We expect to sit in the lush green we think we see on the other side of the fence. Will some one stand up and say! There is just too many of us where we shouldn't be! Oil will grow wheat in the sand these days! Only no seeds need be sown. Or don't worry the Fema man comin!! When we don't have to work the fields to eat or tend the flock! The many have too much time to proliferate and try to find a reason to exist!  (http://hayabusa.org/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/rant.gif)
