Title: New Bike!
Post by: Maniac on April 21, 2006, 11:42:21 PM
Well, I can honestly say I no longer own the 400. Shame, that was a nice little bike. But you live and learn, and move on. Still, I hope that mechanic has his balls ripped off by a rabid pit bull with no teeth (just gum them off, demmit!).
:monkeymoon:

At least I got some money finally. Anyway, today I signed the purchase papers on a new (to me) '03 Honda 919. Beautiful bike, has a single small dent where it looks like something bumped into it. Judging by where the bike next to it lined up, I'm going to assume someone dropped another bike against it. It took them 15 minutes to get it started, mostly trying to find the key, then trying to find a battery.  :duh:

I was actually there looking at a brand new SV650 with the $99 a month deal. Those are nice bikes, but tucked over in the corner was that black 919, and it just kept drawing my eye. I sat on it, and what do you know, it fit perfectly. No scrunching, flat-footed at a stop, perfect reach...

So instead of $6500 on a brand new 650, I paid $5000 on a 4800 mile 2003 with new tires that was actually more comfertable to me. Something about the SV just made my lower back hurt.  I'm supposed to go pick her up in the morning, they were hesitent to turn me loose on her with the thunderstorms coming, in rush hour traffic, with a dead battery (what if it stalled?). So they are going to give her a good charge, an oil change, and fill the tank for me. Not half bad.

I'll miss the old Bandit, but honestly, I think the 919 carries on in spirit. It may not be a suzuki, but at least it's a nakid with a big burly motor in it.

Oh yeah, on a side note... hauled the old man along with me since he was in town (never know, someone has to drive the car back!). He couldn't keep his eyes off the pair of M109Rs they had. My god, thats a beauty of a bike... Not my style, but still, definate work of art there.

Congrats!  the 919 is super cool!

I was wondering what sv you sat on?  I tried out the fairings one and the bars were way too low and it hurt my back.  but the naked has the higher bars - did you try that one too?  I love that sv650 naked.  looks a little like a ducati to me when it's in red.

It was just the 650, not the S, so it was the naked one. I don't think it was the bars, they seemed plenty high, it was just something about the seat or the seat angle...

Thanks guys, one of the best things about the Bandit was this board. But don't let that go to your heads.

:congrats: on the new ride!

Just cuz you went over to the dark side doesn't mean we'll disown you. If you enjoy the company, you can stay, as many former Bandit owners do.

I had checked out the SV's when I was shopping for the B12. (Was the 1G SV's ones back then.) The seating positions of the S and N models didn't work well for me either... which was too bad, I really liked the looks of the SV-S.

Thanks Red

Yeah, I really wanted to like the SV, mostly because of all the people I know with SVs who love them, and my experiance with the $500 Bandit-That-Wouldn't-Die. Unfortunatly the 1000 was out of my price range, and the 650... there was just -something- that made my back hurt.

I just got back from riding the 919 from Longwood (Orlandoish) to Daytona Beach on backroads. Totally different beast than the 400, I'll say that. I've never experianced arm-snapping torque before.  Other than that, it handles a -lot- like the 400, even feels about the same weight wise. Definatly taller though, I can look -over- S10s at stoplights.

Needless to say I looked like this when I got home:

All that power at the twist of the wrist is wonderful, isn't it?!
That's what I love about the B12... it's pretty hard to ever be in the wrong gear, it'll put like a freight train in just about any gear, anytime.
(Well, it does like to be above 25 in 5th.)

:congrats:

The 919 is probably what I would pick up if I was to buy a new bike... the sv1000 can be sexy too...

Wanna write the final chapter to your b400 story? I'm curious as hell.

Pretty much a non-ending. They ended up giving me $1400 for the bike, which I used to pay off most of my credit card. I still have a few parts laying about, I need to inventory them and see what's here. Gonna miss that bike, but it'll be nice to have something thats not broken down most of the time, and fuel injection is the frikken shiznat.

The buzzing sound (fuel pump?) freaks me out, but I'm sure I could get used to it.

My fuel pump makes a little noise as it pressurizes, but I have some horrendous injector noise above 3/4ths throttle. I thought the engine was self-destructing. I'm going to have to have it checked, probally, but as far as I can tell it's normal.

On Order:
Fender Eliminator
LED Tail Light / Turn Signal

I need mirrors and front LED turn signals now, as well. Going to get a 2-way alarm with immobilizer, I think.

I really like that bike.  I wonder how well the heat shields on that exhaust work for the passenger, with the placement of the pegs?

I had a hard time deciding between the Honda and the Bandit, as well.  I like the flat black look.

Have fun on it.

Quite well, I would think! I finished a two hour ride today and immediatly after taking my gloves off, touched the heat shields to see how how they were (back of the hand, I'm not a total idiot), since I want to get some luggage eventually. Honestly? They were warm. Not any warmer than they get sitting in the sun, either, they were just warm.

So yeah, they work pretty good.

Nice bike! :congrats:

You got an amazing deal. I priced some around here and everything was $8,000+ CDN (at 88 cents exchange, thats 7,040 US).
