Just released today, the new Buell XB12X Ulysses
(Looks like what you'd get when a Buell Lightning hits a BMW GS)

That's pretty neat. Trying to figure out what's different about it than the lightening except the handlebars, handgaurds and maybe the extended rear tail section. Something tells me it'll out corner a bmw GS.

Looks interesting, was going to watch the video but I forgot I was on dialup, have to wait till I get home. They really ought to Buell the V-Rod engine to work with. That would be something.

It has a different frame (which also holds more gas), taller suspension, longer wheelbase, revised air intake, etc. The underslung muffler should have got he axe for something with rough/off-road aspirations.

I thought the windscreen that snaps on/off for easy cleaning was a brilliant touch!

I just hope the guard they put over the belt, which looks pretty extensive in the site pics, does a good job of keeping rocks out of the belt & sprockets, because if it doesn't, they'll destroy them in short order.

I haven't got my newest edition of Cycle World yet, but I hear there's a right up on it.

The changes are obviousely more than I first thought. It looks to be an interesting bike. I'd like to see Buell do well. I wish Harley would turn Erik Buell loose to develope an all new water cooled engine for his bikes. It's amazing with what Buell has done with the harley sportster engine.

I particularily like the massive, black, bash plate....

WAIT A MINUTE......that's the exhaust!

Might as well throw some fringey flappy stuff on it.....it has no off road pretensions.

The more I look at and learn about this new Buell, the more I like it. I mean, I know not to go motocrossing on the thing, you get a DRZ400 etc... for that kind of dual sporting, but this Buell is unlike many other adventure bikes............it looks good, and it looks like it would handle too, not that wobbly stuff I got with the adventure bike I used to own. No, I see this Ulysses as a bike you ride cross country to colorado, ride up Pikes Peak, come back down and head to some twisty stuff, leave trails of fire and smoke and head for the house. I also see that Buell has a new Lightening Long model that uses a two inch longer wheelbase than the standard lightening with more relaxed ergo's and higher fuel capacity. I think it's a good move for Buell. If I didn't already have two bikes, I'd seriously consider one of these two new buells.

looks kinda tiny in that second pic. Basically, it's a lightning with an extended rear fender, and a front mudguard, right? (aren't there any 'headscratch' emoticons??) I think I'd like to meet this one in person.

Buells are tiny. I really like their styling. However when I sat on them at the DC bike show, I felt like a circus act with my knees up by my ears. I'm a realatively little guy, too - 5'10"/165 or so.

You must not have read the above posts, and you definately have not visited the Buell website. This bike is brand new from the tires (made by Dunlop esp. for this motorcycle) up. Except for basic controls (ie. mirror, brakes levers, etc.) I don't think this motorcycle shares any chasis parts with the Lightning.
I don't think that I would ever buy one, but I think it is a cool bike and the right direction for Buell to go.
