Title: Newbie here...
Post by: fritobandito on October 07, 2005, 12:06:24 PM
Greetings to all. I'm a newbie to this forum and have recently purchased my first '01 B12. I'm a former Honda Shadow owner and decided it was time to nix the cruiser mode and move to a more performance oriented machine.  A friend recommended the Bandit since you sit more upright than your average sportbike. So, I found one for sale locally so I could test-ride it. Whoah! Two minutes into the ride I was hooked. But, the boss said I had to sell the Shadow first. Took me all summer to do it, buy I finally arrived in Bandit heaven. This appears to be a great site and I have already gleaned very useful info from visiting. You all sound like great people and I look forward to getting to know you. My new ride is a silver one with yoshimura exhaust and the typical bobbed rear fender and a nice, fat 180 tire in the rear. All I can say is it's a good thing that I bought it now that I'm 45 instead of when I was 25 or I most certainly would have killed myself on it back then. Pulling wheelies is not my first priority, but oh what  rush when it happened by accident on my first test ride. That never happened on the shadow. Hmmmm, wonder why. Anyway, thanks to those who started and run this site and I look forward to many more visits.

Hey there fritobandito, nice to meet you and welcome along.  I to made the change from a shadow to the bandit.  The shadow was a nice bike to ride but just didn't have the thrill factor of the B 12.  My shadow stuggled at open road speed how about yours??? :toocool:

No problem on the road with my Shadow. It was a 1985 VT1100 and had all kinds of power for a V-twin cruiser. I've had that thing up to 110 mph with more throttle to go. Actually, I really really liked the bike and was reluctant to give it up. But, one ride on elbandito solved that problem. Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome!  Enjoy the ride and KEEP THE FRONT RUBBER ON THE GROUND!  It's a control issue!

Cheers

Thanks. Yeah, I'm not used to the front coming up everytime you hit the throttle. Incidentally, a friend was telling me about a race he watched on TV between a Harley V-Rod and a Bandit 1200. I don't know what year the Bandit was. But, The Bandit gave the V-rod a headstart, popped a wheelie at take-off and still won by a couple bike lengths. Actually, that surprised me that the V-Rod did that well.

It wasn't a bandit it was an '83 GS1100 and yes it smoked the V-ROD

Thanks. I asked my bud how he could mistake a 1983 GS1100 for a Bandit. He rechecked and confirmed that it had been a 1983 GS1100E which he mistook for a naked Bandit.
