I don't about the rest of y'all, but this is the first time that I have been able to access the site in a while.  Nice to see it again.

Holy sheep shite, Batman....a whole WEEK without being able to get on here !!!! I just about went into withdrawl.....

Thank heaven I could still visit the OTHER Suzuki board....for old strokers. Between that one and this one I manage to maintain a semblance of what passes for sanity.....especially since winter doesn't want to let us go riding yet......although it IS only the 16th of March......

I have been a member of BA since the beginning, and was on the original Email list before then.  I have owned bandits since 1997.  It saddens me to say this, but this board has been so unreliable as of late that I just don't think it is worth visiting anymore.

I sure hope someone saves it but I think the time has come for me to say farewell.

I'm trying,... but I won't do it without the OK of the big man.

I have the ability to host, the board is also set up on my server with yesterday's data, but it will only go live when Pete says it's OK to host the backup.   (OK, it's live, I just won't publish the address til then.)

What I've been doing is taking a backup, usually about every couple of days, but I may step it up a little in light of recent events, and storing it.  Once(if?) I have the OK to host the backup in the event of outage, here's what I plan to do:

1. Restore the latest backup that I have to the Backup Board
2. Send out a mass email using the user admin panel with the address of the backup site.
3.  Host the site til Pete can get the other site back up.  (Provide him a copy of the latest database, so that he can restore to current.)
4.  Take the backup site down when it's not needed, but keep it waiting in the wings in the event that the main craps out again when Pete isn't available.

It's a little dirty, but it's the best solution I can come up with right now.

The important part is that the data is not being lost.  It's all being stored in a different country, for security reasons.  :stickpoke:

If the big man doesnt have time to take care of it he should shut it down, loyalty is loyalty.

Any way you can get it running on the latest version of php s/w? Or have you done it already?

Not bad for a part-time Honda rider eh?

The database and the sw are both updated to the latest.   I -assumed- that when (if?) Pete decides he wants the board back that he'll upgrade first, then fix whatever's wrong, if it's still a problem after the upgrade, so I upgraded it all.

Please let me know if anyone gets those or any other messages!  I'm very curious to see if my "rural" internet connection is going to keep up.  If it can't, I have a contingency plan.

Long term though, I may have to work out the sponsorship of the site with Pete, as it will cost me about $250 - $300 a year to host this, if it has to leave the house.

Right now, my biggest problem is getting the message out to 1914 people.  Apparently, that's too many people for the SW to mail at once ( not that I blame it), BUT, the choice is all or one at a time, unless I put everyone into groups.  So,... teacher is going to split you all into groups,.. play nice.  :monkeymoon:

Way to go, Stormi !!! :thanks: :beers:
The link from the old site worked perfectly....and here I is.
If push comes to shove, I'm sure we can get 20 or 30 members to pony up with $10 apiece to keep things going.....
or maybe 60 members with $5 apiece. Who can't afford $5 a year for all the great info and help that this board offers ??
Cheap deal, IMO. One tip from this board can usually save you 'wayyyyyy more than $5, fer shure.
Again, thank you, Stormi.....even if you own a brand H as well as your Bandit....I guess some people just need something else to compare with the Bandit to know how good the Bandit REALLY is.....:stickpoke:  :bigok:

LOL! I dunno,.. that Honda's FI sure looks attractive when you've had your carbs off the bandit for the 4th time by june.  :duh:

Well, I hope to not have to ask for "admission".  I'd like to do it the way Pete has been, if he washes his hands of the site.  Of course if push comes to shove, and it's the difference between shutting it down, and membership,.. I'll put the choice out there before it goes the way of the dodo.

Right now, let's just enjoy that we're back! (http://members.stormi.ca/penguin.gif)

Oh my god!!

alright,.. we've set the record for the new board so far,... 62 users at once!  not bad.  I'll be holding off on the rest of the email notifications for now.  I've sent out 400, and got 100 bounce messages so far,... my inbox is a mess!  And that's for the top 400 posters.  I don't even want to think of what the bounces will be like for the posters that are under 18 posts total/ per user.

So far, the only glitch is the time on some of the posts?  I set the server's time again,.. we'll see if it holds.  It's a new server,.. so it has to settle in and figure out which quirk it's going to p!$$ me off with.  We may have found it already.  ;)

There was a brief hiccup when I changed the email server that we're supposed to be sending through.  I'll try that one again later tonight.  I'd rather not be sending through my ISP,.. they have "issues".

OK,.. make that 125 bounces.

so,.. by my calculations, I reached potentially 275 users, plus the ones on MaxZuk,.. plus a couple that hit the main site,... and we had a pretty good hit to the site tonight!!

Wow!  That makes the work worth it guys!  :thanks:

Stormi, you deserve a "Geek of the Year" award or something... thank you very much!  :thanks:

This is working faster than the old board. I have dial-up so it's obvious to me. The only glitch I've seen is one of my posts got lost, it was just a "+2" thank-you note in this thread, but otherwise great job!  :congrats:

A suggestion for operating cash...  for $10 PayPal you get a one year "premium" membership with a little star by your name or something, maybe have a special forum for contributors.

Nothing elitist mind you, just a little recognition for helpin' out.  :bigok:

Thank the heavens for Stormi (once again)!  My sanity is gradually returning to normal...whatever that means.

And may I also throw out a big thanks to Pete for running the site all these years.

Surfing the site takes up a ton of free time.  I can't imagine how much time it takes to admin it!  Everyone's got busy schedules these days.  Just wanted to let you both know I appreciate all the hard work...past, present and future!

Oh For @#$#@%$@#%@ sake!!

I was just about to send out a mass email letting the population about the new link to the backup site,.. and the damn thing comes back up ,.. for what? I bet hours, as usual, and screws up the database sync I had going.

I actually had trimmed all the spammers out of the database and was literally composing the email!

OK,.. here's the thing,... I'm going to disable this board, and we're going to move to the backup board til Pete gets back, or I can talk to him at length about what he wants to do.

I'm not sure at this point.  I haven't got enough access to do the forensics.   I can say that I'm relatively certain that it's not a problem with the database.  If it were, I would be having this site fall down here too.  I suspect it has something to do with the company that was hosting it.

Do I get the $64K??  I could buy a coupla bikes with that,...  :monkeymoon:

LOL! Well,.. I think I even rescued your post that you lost.

I hope to do the hosting without having to get support from the membership, but if I can't make it work alone, without going too much out of pocket, I may look into adopting a membership of some sort.  I'd rather that, than see the site go away.  I would love a couple of the geeks on the board to speak up if they're able to help in the event that I'm unavailable too, if they're out there.... I can't be the only geek on a Bandit,.. can I?

I suppose I could always put it to a poll as well.  I have noticed a lot of people have mentioned helping out.... would that be more desirable than advertising on the board?  Less?

It is good to be back... In June of 01 I bought a new B-12S. I sold it at a huge loss because I'd let the raw power of the thing intimidate me... 2.5 yrs later that is.   I dropped off all Bandit contacts, but decided a couple months ago, I wanted another Bandit so I could take command of myself and that bloody intimidation factor... Last Saturday, I picked up a used 01 B-12S, w/7111 mi on the clock... I finally got all the paper work and the rain stopped, so I took it out for a "Howdy" ride today.  Now I remember why I got intimidated. This time, however, I kept control...   When you've been riding big heavy bikes where the weight to power ratio is not even close to what Bandit has... getting on a Bandit again is, as Mr. Spok would say: "Interesting."

LOL!  You'll be just fine!! Just remember,.. the right wrist is not an "on - off" switch.  That's what I had to "adjust" to when I went from the B4 to the 919!  From a 400 that loves to be wrung out, to a 919 that will happily lift the front wheel, and dump you on your arse in 1st and 2nd gears.  I haven't tried in 3rd yet.

It helps that you're fresh on this one.  I think I might have had more trouble with the transition if I'd been on the 400 that year before I got on the 919.  Nowadays, I have a little trouble riding the 400, cos I'm used to lugging the 919 around.

Thanx, Stormi.   I've been twisting throttles since 1945 (you do the arithmatic) so it's just a matter of "adjusting" in ways I didn't adjust before.  Then too, I lived in an area where there were some "interesting" roads which kept prompting the Bandit to push into the "sin tax" velocieties because it seemed to have a linkage of some sort between lean angle and throttle position... the more it got leaned over, the more open it wanted to crank the throttle...  strange affliction I know, but I've experienced it on many bikes... the tighter the curves in the road, the faster the bloody thing wanted to go. The worst moment in memory occured on a road thru a state park... over a hill, sharp off camber thru a field of rocks, hard switch back, blind, posted 35mph... sitting on 70... half way thru the second cruve chugged a center stripe painting machine...,  WOAH... THRILL THRILL THRILL...

Ha!  I've been there.  Especially with the 919, but also on the 400, we go into a corner and they're saying,.. "faster, faster FASTER!" And I'm going "no,.. I know YOU can do it, I'm not ready to commit that much yet!!!"

BTW, I was mostly referring to the fact that you'd taken a hiatus, not that you were a new rider.  I'd say that 90% at least of the population here is a more experienced rider than I am.

Storrmi,

I'm so old, been riding and flying so many years, each experience now is like a new one of starting all over again.

Had a few "situations" on the Bandit today... BDCD's aren't the only ones... timber haulers in this heavy forest area are real road hazards.
