I used to have a GSX1100G,it had a shaft drive. It really didn't have any bad carituristics besides the bike being 630lbs and long. Suzuki had some sort of spring to eliminate the trorque caused by the shaft drive. But it still had good response when cracking the throttle. For the wt. of the bike,it was surprisingly fast. It was a sleeper.
Now on the other hand, my brother had a 6 cylinder Kaw with a shaft drive, while rolling on the throttle in a corner it would want to stand you back up. I didn't like the handling carituristics of that beast at all.

Most modern shaft drive bikes don't suffer from the shaft jacking issues that used to be a common trait.  Several brands use an anti-torque linkage (BMW, Guzzi, Concours), while some rely on the longest possible shaft (FJR, most shaft drive cruisers).  From watching the videos and reading their claims, it appears the new VFR has it's own (new?) solution to prevent jacking by offsetting the shaft from the swingarm pivot.
