Title: On the Road Again!
Post by: PitterB4 on May 29, 2007, 11:31:56 PM
I'm back on the street!  Gas prices are KILLING me (53 mile commute).  Talked the wife into letting me get another bike.  Tonight picked up a 98 ZX-6R.  It's a little rough - very minor slides on both sides.  It runs great!  13K on the clock.  It's not the ultimate commuter bike but the only S/T bike that really interested me was the 2G B12 and I couldn't find any around here in my price range (sorry JR, yours was a little beyond what I was able to spend.).  Pics tomorrow after I get the thing cleaned up (it's a mess ATM).  Oh... it's red.  WOULDN'T own one of those green things! :annoy:  :gagme:

:congrats: Now there's another make & model to show up at the next BOSS rally.
They might have to change the name to FOOBSS.

But you knew this was coming...

It doesn't exist without pictures.  :stickpoke:

Thanks, guys!

No pics yet.  Got it cleaned up but spent a good chunk of the day running around fixing a screw-up at the title place.  Should be on the road by Friday.

Well... I'm about 5 hrs from the panhandle and 6 from Erie.  I could make a weekend out of it and stay with my family on that end of the state, though.

Or...  we could all meet at Beaverun and do a weekend of track days!

Ok.. ok... proof!

Other than fluids, fork seals and brake pads, it is 100% stock.  Even the big-ass rear fender is still all there.  It actually cleaned up pretty nice (other than the scratched up fairings).  My first mod was to remove the queer cartoon-like "Ninja" stickers from the tail.

What did ya shell out for it, if you don't mind me asking?

Gave the guy $2100 and that included a really nice tank bag and a factory shop manual.  It' also has brand new Diablos on it.

Yeah, it was SO gross when I picked it up, I wasn't sure how it would look after a little Simple Green (like a whole bottle), water, some polishing compound and a little work.  I'm really happy with how it came out.  There's a couple tiny chips in the tank that will soon be covered by a tank pad.  Other than that and the little rash on both sides, it's really in near-new condition.

Wow. $2100!  13K miles... and a tankbag, shop manual and new Diablos?

You made out like a bandit!  :bigok:

I'll actually be bikeless in the Finger Lakes, NY that weekend.  NESBA is back at Beaver the second weekend in July.  I'm skipping that one because I'll be in Pittsburgh the weekend before for my 20th high school reunion!  They aren't back there again until Sept 9 and 10.  I will be there then.

Finally got around to sorting through some of the pics on my camera.  I SWORE I was going to leave this damn thing totally stock as a commuter...  I should know myself better by now.   :no-no:  Got the funky Micron can brand new for next to nuthin on Ebay and tried out the National Cycle Cheatah SST windscreen, too.  Probably go with some smaller signals over the winter and maybe trim some of that big ole rear fender.  (must not get a jet kit... must not get a jet kit...)

Did about 4500 miles before the cold weather hit.  Its a great bike.  Runs really well (damn front wheel must be really light!).  It's got a wierd hard-start problem when it's warm but otherwise running like a champ.  I honestly may sell the CBR and get an extra set of wheels and rearsets for the ZX so it can pull dual duty for me (especially considering I only did 5 track days this year).
