Title: One Less Bandit on the Road...
Post by: Heaven Bound on July 10, 2008, 10:20:35 PM
Sorry to say that there is one less Bandit on the road...my "official" ride report can be found at ST.N:

Blueridge Parkway of Pain... (http://www.sport-touring.net/forums/index.php/topic,26887.0.html)

While I have really enjoyed my Bandit, I suspect the next ride may lean a little more toward longer distance travels with a better seat (and more power  :thumb: ...thinking about a new Concours...thinking...

Damn man....that's a freak way to go down  :yikes:

Hope you heal up quick and get back out on the road. Sorry to see the Bandit trashed, but better the bike taking the brunt of the damage instead of you.

Ooof!  Trashing the bike is bad enough, but trashing your body is another.  Take time ti heal, and shop for a good deal on a bike.  I'd suggest renting a couple prospects.  From the magazine reviews, I was sold on the Concours, but after renting the FJR and test-riding the Connie, I changed my vote to the FJR.

At times like these it sometimes helps to know that others have gone before you.

This is a link to a photo stream on FliKR, sorry but I think you might need an account to view it. I can't seem to get pics into my post here.

The reason I share this with you is that I know you might be wondering what the future holds as far as your recovery. Well, I am here to tell you that, as far as the collar bone is concerned, there is a more than good chance that you will be none the worse for wear - in time. As you will see from my photos my break was pert near a compound fracture and I too had much hardware installed. I was in a sling for three months after the metal was put in. Three months after getting out of the sling I was back in the weight room lifting weights pretty much at the same level and intensity I had been prior to the accident. After 18 months I had my hardware removed. The metal came out on a Friday and the following Monday I was back to work. The chronology is as follows: October of 2005 the hardware was installed. Feb. 2007 hardware removed. And as of today I have only slight residual aches and pains. As a matter of fact they are so slight almost not worth mentioning. And most often as a result of sleeping on it wrong.  Also, bench pressing seems to aggravate it a bit but beyond that its all systems normal.

Take it slow. Listen to your doctor and be smart about your rehab - it will really pay off in the end.

Take care,
BLK

PS. My crash wasn't as bad and my bike was indeed totaled and believe you me there was a lot less damage to my bike. I actually ended up buying the salvage title from the insurance company.

  HB, praying for ya'.  Hate that spill.  Makes me want to check my brake lines a little closer.

Actually, the wife's orders are more strict  :stickpoke:

Since the accident, I have progressed daily and I am now out of the sling one month post op.  I get to start rehab as soon as I get scheduled and I'm taking the wifey out this evening on a date...she has put up with a lot of stuff in the last month and deserves a little treat.

I've talked to a few folks who recommend replacing the original lines with something a little stronger...

Paul D. - I pray your recovery is speedy and complete.

And happy shopping for your next bike, whatever your final decision is!

Sorry about that.

I have tried and tried again to set the preferences to public but for whatever reason it doesn't seem to work.

You can try again to view that link as I have yet again went through the process of making sure that it's available for public viewing.

Well the great thing is that you knew God was watching over you and perhaps there are some lessons learned there. Ill say a prayer for you as well. The bike doesn't seem look that bad, perhaps it's repairable and in the process you'll better understand what went wrong with the brakes. Just a recommendation but if you do decide to buy a touring bike I would do allot of research before buying the C14 as it has a laundry list of issues and recalls which include towing and walking. Consider the B1250 as it makes a far more reliable tourer with bags, not to mention economy and value IMHO.
