Title: Out the door prices on new motorcycles are up a bit!
Post by: CWO4GUNNER on March 20, 2008, 02:27:38 AM
I haven't looked at Cycle trader in about 5 months but was surprised that "out the door" have jumped. Some haven't but I noticed the B1250 is up by $600 from $7800 to $8400 OTD. I think the devaluation of the dollar is really starting to kick in. Im thinking that if gas prices get to $5 as they predict by next summer, I might have to get a set of road tires for my CRF450x. I'd LOL but its not very funny.

I read recently that the last couple of months have been the worse ever for motorcycle sales.  I don't recall if the article referenced a particular "line" of bikes (dirt, road, etc.)  I do know that if you're looking to buy a new car in Oregon, the dealers are falling all over themselves to make the deal.

Not surprising considering most people view bikes or atvs as a "recreational" item. Everybody seems to be giving up something or another right now. If gas keeps going up it might help bike sales to an extent. But with everybody holding onto their wallet/purse so tightly it probably won't make a huge difference. I'm looking forward to being able to ride into work again on a regular basis. Stinking ass snow needs to go the hell away.

Don't know if it's true or not but some girl I work with said some local dealer is offering some crazy ass bumper-to-bumper warranty for up to 200,000 miles just to move cars. Doubt it's true (since she tends to distort facts a bit), but if the economy keeps going the way it is it might not be so far fetched of an idea by summer.

I think higher gas prices will just push the American car and motorcycle market over the edge and we will see Japaneses products fall into the luxury class and the core market will fall to the Chinese and Koreans. I see a future where BBS like Maxzuk and BA-BBS will be replaced by Kymco-Alley and MaxHyosung LOL.

Well, for those of us in Canada, prices have actually come down a bit, but not as much as the Canadian $ has risen (relative to the US).

Dealers here are all still complaining that consumers can buy south of the border (in the US) for less than the dealer has to pay in Canada. So...dealer sales are down, and imports are up, especially on small dirt bikes, quads, etc. that are not normally licensed and registered.

As for fuel prices, look forward to a bizzare year. Diesel especially is going through the roof, and shows no sign of slackening. Too much Industrial/Commercial demand chasing too little supply. If crude oil ever got back in line with supply/demand fundamentals, you might actually see gasoline come down, but don't count on it, as I said, this is a bizzare year!!

The biggest problem with the price of gas is the fact that the USD is worth squat right now. I do my fair share of complaining about gas prices, but I can adjust my driving habits and live with it. Diesel is what worries me. That's a huge part in driving up costs of everything. Anything that gets moved by a truck is going to keep getting more and more expensive.

I was looking at a bill of lading for a shipment we got in the other day. Fuel surcharge was an additional 28% to the cost.  :annoy:

Kymco-Alley?  :-)  I'm falling out of my chair and my sides are hurting.  hehehehe  Nah, I would just take three of the spark plugs out of the bandit and go beat up some Kymcos with it.  LOL

Amen to that!  We get robbed at the pump, then again on any product shipped by truck, which encompasses pretty much EVERYTHING!

I feel sorry for the independant truckers.  I'd hate to be on my own in the trucking biz in these times!

Also, re: m/c prices.....Last I heard, dealers were selling everything they could get their hands on. Now, I'm talking basic transportation, gas saving types, 250's - 800's   I noticed a big difference on Cycletrader as well.  I just assumed they no longer HAVE to give big discounts to sell 'em?

It's a viscious circle... gas prices go up, the price of almost everything goes up, people have a tougher time spending money on non-essentials, which drives the economy and the $ down, which makes gas prices go up...
