I thought Owls can hunt in darkness?  I've seen them nail rabbits on moonlit nights on snowy fields out west.

   I hit one in real dense fog at night one time, MUCH bigger than this one.
 It looked like a 30 pound watermelon with wings!
 
  I was driving a cab over type tractor trailer, and just caught a glimpse of this HUGE thing heading toward my face.  It hit right above the windshield, a metal sun visor taking the brunt of the force.
 I damn near peed my pants.....

It's a shame, they're cool looking birds....
