Title: P-plate biker 'clocked at 220km/h'
Post by: aussiebandit on January 10, 2007, 06:45:48 AM
A P-PLATE motorcyclist has allegedly been clocked riding at 220km/h - 140km/h over the speed limit - on Sydney's north shore.
Police said the 28-year-old Roseville man had had his licence suspended and was charged with dangerous speeding and riding a motorcycle too powerful for a P-plate rider.

The man was allegedly riding a 1000cc Suzuki despite P-plate riders being restricted to a maximum of 250cc.

He has been bailed to appear in North Sydney Local Court on January 23.

Highway patrol officers said they stopped him in a 80km/h zone on the Warringah Freeway about 4.55am (AEDT) today.

Note: the artical isn't quite right - NSW Learners and Probationary riders are permitted to ride bikes up to 660cc with a maximum power to weight ratio of 150kw/Tonne

Either way this is the sort of thing that gets Governments talking about Front Number Plates, engine restrictions, even more expensive registration and insurance costs....

Lemme just say, this guy is obviously an idiot, and while I agree in general that learners should start on smaller bikes, legislating it is just crazy. I seem to see alot of that type (see crazy) of legislation coming from down under these days. What's going on?
