Title: People cutting bikes off again!!!
Post by: jbrough7 on April 09, 2006, 11:55:23 AM
So there I am riding on my brand new bright red bandit that everyone can see in the sparkly sun from about a million frickin' miles away...I'm coming up to a nicely rounded corner IN town doing only 50 clicks or so when an elderly lady pulls up to a stop sign on an intersecting road halfway through this big swooping curve...she looks to the right and sees nobody coming and the she looks to the right, RIGHT  AT ME (forty feet away) and then PULLS OUT SLOWLY right in front of my beautiful new baby!!!

I hit the brakes, come to a nice stop, then jump off my bike and run over to her car...I open the door and pull the frickin' darning needles out of her lap and drive them both right into her eye sockets (repeatedly).  Then I laugh and I scream maniacally and I say, "There!  I hope you see me better next time!"

That last paragraph was made up but wouldn't ya just love to??

AGAIN?

More like STILL.  :boohoo:

Ride like you're invisible. Better yet, ride like you're their target!

I had the same impulse the other day when this idiot broad breezed through a 4-way stop where I had actually started enterting the intersection when she came up in my left.  She appeared to *intend* to run the stop sign because *she didn't seen any vehicles*.  SHe never even turned to look my way...her peripheral vision showed her no cars, so good enough, floor it!

I wonder if that's the difference between the guys in jail and us?  We have these impulses but they are just that - others take the darning needles and really do run with them!

You know, all I really want (assuming that I'm not going to get the world to start driving more safely) is for people to admit they were wrong and to drive away with the intention to try a little harder next time.

I keep being disappointed by people who do something foolish and dangerous, and then look at you like they (a) have no idea why you are staring them down, or (b) give you a sort of "eff you" look.  To admit error, to be embarassed by one's own mistake seems to have weaned out of society.  Men and woman both seem to approach driving as a competition to be won at any cost.

When you nearly run me off the road, just look horrified, mouth "I'm sorry" and drive sheepishly away.  Give me just that, and I'll stop wishing for your death in a firey crash.  (Or like the woman on MadTV this past Saturday, follow you onto a mountain road and force your car off a cliff.)

Its a fact on life on a bike that you're going to get cut off, pulled in front of, etc.  Most drivers are so busy with cell phones, stereos, food, yelling at the kids, they're not watching for bikes.  Ride like you're invisible and keep a cool head.  Remember, you lose whether its your fault or not.

I was almost hit today, rearended to be exact.  All because some bimbo blond in a Jeep Cherokee was trying to cruise along at about 60 mph on a busy street that is marked at 35 mph.  I some how ended up in front of her after she speed past me and as I turned into my work I heard screaching tires and spotted her red jeep in my mirror which kind of put me in a panic as I was turning into the driveway and when I got into the parking lot I was on some gravel and lost my footing and down goes the bike.  Nothing broken, me or the bike, so thats a good thing and I actually had about 4 people ask if I needed help and if I was ok.  People stopping and asking if I was ok was a big surprise and actually calmed me down a bit.
oh well another day as a motorcycle rider I guess.

What a sucky way to start the day.  Glad you and the bike are both OK, but I'm sure you had a case of the nerves after TWO incidents (almost hit, going down).

Don't beat yourself up for either incident.  A perfect rider would have let her hurry on to her grave a top-speed, and avoided the gravel, but there are no perfect riders, and there is no use in rubbing salt in the wound by saying "if only I had...".  As the "Fish" philosphy says, "choose your attitude" for the rest of the day, and have a great ride home!
