 Well folks here's what replaced my poor burnedup Bandit.
www.bikepics.com/pictures/328130
also 328131,328132 and 328133
I've put about 400 miles on it sense last sunday and I'm pretty pleased so far. Funny that the V-Twin doesn't seem to have the torque of the Bandit ..you gotta tap dance a little more on the shifter to keep 'er where you need 'er but it's been fun learning! Got a Givi trunk for her the other night hope the rack and brackets show up this week so the better half won't feel like she's flying off the back!
-
:bigok: Almost as nice looking as the red one.
-
I do like the Aprilia - nearly bought one instead of the Bandit, but the bank manager said no.
I test road the '02 model and found exactly the same thing - tap dancing on the gear lever until I started treating 6th as an overdrive on the long boring bits. The wifes ex boss (Aprilia dealer) put on a set of ART pipes and said that it considerably improved performance across the rev range but particularly the mid range.
-
Did they 'write off' the Bandit, Terry?
I know you were ready to get rid of it, after all the hassle with the oil problems.
Glad you got some wheels for the summer, though!
-
:congrats: Thats a awsome bike. They sure recieved great reviews in all the bike magazines that I've read.
-

I took a test on the Falco model a couple years ago.
nice bike.......

I rode a Mille R at an open house
That was a mistake :duh:
Good work Terry! At least someone is moving up in the world. :bigok:
-
 Yes I am a happy guy! And Red you found that stuff before I did..Pete you won't believe what they did with the Bandit :boohoo: I traded the bike's on sunday, they WERE supposed to have it done on monday well in the trade I got a new rear tire thrown in the deal for the Aprilia. Saturday my better half went to pick up the new tire and my E-vest cord which I forgot on the Bandit...They shoved it in the back and left it with the new pistons hangin'out, the head in a box and the cylinders on the studs!! They said sense it's our's now we gotta get other customers bikes done first, yet they wanted me to lower my trade price 'cause they wouldn't be able to put it right out on the sales floor. Yes the riding position is very close to the Bandit feels somewhat the same but yet very different (if that makes any sense). The seat is longer, more room to move around, but I think the biggest difference is the suspension. Very adjustable. And the power delivery. I believe it would be a damn close drag race with equal riders. Like I said they feel alot the same but very different.
I've put about 650 miles on it sense the 3rd. and am still figuring out some things luckly this internet IS a great source of info...like there was NO owners manual in the bike and NOBODY knew how to check the oil, you gotta check it HOT! Glad I'm learning to use this ole 'puter better and can keep learning. Also glad I can stay in touch with all you Banditos. The Bandit might be gone but the FlyingTurtle is gonna hang around this site as long as you'll let me. Hope everyone has a great week, and keep the rubber side down, ride safely! Have Fun!
-
Like I said, you can stay, but you need to update your sig...

Sorry Paul, thought I did that last week :duh:

Cool, Terry! Happy riding!

I rode a Mille R at an open house
That was a mistake :duh:
I agree Manny. I test rode a Mille at the Carlisle Summer Bike Fest 2 years ago. One of the most uncomfortable bikes I've ever ridden. And the vibes from the V-twin made both my hand numb in about 15 minutes.
-
Somehow, I get the feeling Manny had a different outlook on the Mille, Gary...
-
Welcome :bigok: to the dark side Terry.Another twin convert. :congrats:
-
Congratulations on a great bike! One other free performance mod you can check for is the air filter intake restrictor. From the factory it has a cover that purposely restricts it. Reportedly removing it can add up to 9hp at the rear wheel!
If you have not found it yet this seems to be a great Aprillia site. Enjoy your new bike.

Madgsf Thanks for the heads up on the Aprilia site it's almost as good as this one! Manny here's the update last week the day before I was to leave on vacvation the starter relay went out on the Futura! So I didn't get to take it with me cause noone around here had the relay :boohoo: so I ordered one and was told it would be here when I got home...long story short they didn't get it and were going to call ITALY. Turns out this relay is a BIG problem on all Aprilias. Luckily a dealer in Greenville S.C. keeps 2 on the shelf at all times, 100 miles out of the way to home pick it up and she's running sweet. Took her to a dealer and had the oil changed and the whole bike checked out (90 mile trip one way) worth every penny. She's good to go as soon as I put on the new rear tire and get the Givi trunk and backrest on. Just wish I hadn't HAD to spend this money so I could see you all at BOSS.
-
Well guys it took 7 hrs. to get my Itialian Whores rump right but she's noe got a BOOTAA! Check her out at www.bikepics.com/pictures/364833 and yes I am feeling her up! When I get 'puter savvy enough I'll figure out how to get them on here without going thru bike pics!!
-
I love the Futura! :bigok:
I know Givi's stuff is great and how functional a top box is in so many ways,
but the roundish lines of that trunk just don't go with the angular lines of the Futura, sorry.
...I don't know if anyone makes something that does look more like it belongs there or not.
-
:thanks: Yeah I know that box doesn't really help her in the looks department , but like you said the darn thing is SO handy and more important IT MADE MAMA HAPPY! And you know what that means...When Mama's Happy......... And truthfully I didn't see any others that looked any better and most were smaller. This one will hold 2 full face helmets and as the bike doesn't have any helmet locks that I could find. Another Big plus was the 2 brake lights in the case. The size, lights and a Gel Backrest for Mama...just had to have it. OH did you get that kitchen pass for Laguana? Hope to see you there. We'll be staying in Watsonville at the Motel 6.
-
Oh, I know exactly what it means to have Mama happy (that's why I have a Corbin w/backrest).
Got a kitchen pass for Laguna - but between none of my riding buddies being able to go to Laguna and the expense of the trip as well as an Aug. road trip to Banff that at least one of my buddies CAN make, I had to make a decision between Laguna and Banff, so Laguna lost. I'll just have to make due with watching it on Speed.
(I also need to keep enough $$ on-hand in case we go on strike in Sept.)
