Title: Pilot Road² Tires Tested on Bandit 12.5
Post by: Sven on June 03, 2007, 07:49:45 PM
The may issue of the Brit mag TWO has an article baout the new Michelin Pilot Road2 "tyres" which uses three compounds of rubber the continue the Pilot's repuation as a long-lasting but sticky tire that's also good for wet surfaces.

The new tire is tested on a B12.5, and the reporter thoguht they were great, a big improvement on the existing Road tires.

I'm about to swap out my existing Roads for another pair that I already have on hand, so it'll be another year before I can give the Road2s a try, but I hope someone else will post their experiences soon.

my roads have about 8000 miles on em now and they still look great tread wise .I have no issues keeping my friends at bay in the twistys ( r-1 & gixxer 1000 ) .in the spring I will get another set of roads unless I hear that the 2`s really are an improvement . I just dont see how it could be as the roads are such a great all around tire . btw this is the most I have ever gotten out of a tire and I certainly am not slowing with age lol   Mark

Oh, I'm about to finish my 2nd set or Roads, and as I mentioned, am already committed to them for the next year, but I'm hoping someone has tried or about to try the Road2s.  (Or Road (2) since Michelin shows it like "Road squared".)

My B1250 came with Dunlop D218's and they work just fine, but I've already been thinking of what to go with when the time comes. I was leaning towards the Michelin Pilot Roads or the Continental Road Attacks. Now the Road 2 has come out, I just may go for those next.

I'm on my 2nd Road front and 3rd Road rear. I got >15K out of the first front and >10K out of each rear. I had Bridgestones on it before that, a BT010 front and BT020 rear. They lasted just under 10K and the front was just beginning to scallop.

I'm 4 days away from picking up my new bike but already plan on fitting Pilot Road2s to the 1250 when the OEM tyres are shot - I hear that the standard fit rubber wears out in no time.

I ran the Roads for a year on my FZR awhile back. Held up pretty well, but never felt confident being aggressive in the corners. Didn't think they were a bad tire, but not the "right" one for my Fizzer.

Think the tires on the Bandit (Macadams) should make it through the summer, but I will be curious to hear some feedback on the Road 2s.

Every report I've seen on the Road 2 so far reckon that they are really good - long life and good grip.

I was really happy with my Pilot Roads as well, but had to change them in Califonia on this last trip. Centre of the rear was through ALL the tread at just over 11,000 km (7000 miles). Damn Oregon highway at 95 deg! I changed the front as well, even though it had 35% wear left, as I had hit a pothole so hard, it made me nervous, and the shop only had Bridgestone rears in stock in my size.

I ended up with a BT20 rear, and the new BT21 front. I will let you know how they work out. I would like to try the new Pilot 2's, maybe next set.

I actually liked the BT020. They tend to get mixed reviews in the States, but get great reviews in Europe/UK. The BT010 front was fine, too, up until the last couple hundred miles when I could feel the scallopping under heavy braking. OTOH, I intentionally chose the 010 front so the tires would wear out together, and they did that perfectly. I felt the 'Stones stuck a little better and didn't seem any different to me in the wet than the Roads, but the Roads lasted a little better and the price was about the same.

I'm looking forward to hearing more about the  Road² and the BT021!

I've been running the BT014s the past two years on my FZR, and your statement sums up how I've felt about the difference between those and the Roads. The 14s don't last very long, but I've always been happy with their grip. Having an 18" rear really limits your options in today's market.

I hear the Pilot Road 2's will not be offered in the States until September. They are currently being sold in the UK so we need to count on the boys from over the pond for reviews!

I've been running the Pilot Powers and really like the stick but they don't last that long. I ran the Pilot roads in the past and thought they were OK but after picking up a chunk of some ones left over tail light in a rear tire I switched over!

Michelin Listing of the Road2 (http://two-wheels.michelin.com/2w/front/affich.jsp?codeRubrique=2092004104045&codePage=2092004104045_13032007105938&lang=EN)

I'm about ready for another rear tire and was hoping to make it but I think I'll have to hold out for the next set till then I'll stick with the Powers! :duh:

I ran Roads on my B12 and kind of felt the same way.  On certain roads, they worked fine.  Since I installed my Metlzers, I feel more confident with them.
