I realize that lots of people think, "The only way to learn is to ride...." but i borrowed a book off my bro called 'Proficient Motorcycling - The Ultimate Guide to Riding Well' by Davied L. Hough and I am pretty much enjoying reading it.
I've only been riding seriously for less than two years so I figure there lots to learn. The neatest thing is figuring something out on the road and then reading about doing the same thing so it kinda confirms you're on the right track.
Best section I've read is how to deal with surprise sh!t that jumps out in front of you...as a newer rider, I'm always wondering how I would handle a panic situation. Basically, it's just getting on the brakes quickly every time. So it's important to know your brake's limits; ie. do panic stop practicing a lot.
Hough was born and raised near Seattle, I believe, and he has been writing columns and articles and books forever, so he knows what he's been talking about. He has an amusing writing style as well.
Neatest thing he says is he likes to take a 350 enduro out with his friends when they're on their 600 sport bikes. He always keeps up and usually gets ahead of them! Always thought that thing about bigger is always better was kinda crazy.
Anyway, for newer riders or somebody who just wants a refresher, I recommend it.
