Title: Repacking exhaust
Post by: chevsuz12 on September 12, 2005, 12:16:11 AM
I need to repack my D&D bolt on.  Does anyone have any suggestions as far as what type of packing to use?  I hear ceramic is the best.  But where can this be purchased at?

Does D and D sell a repack kit?   I know a few manufacturers do......with the insulation....new rivets, etc.

No they don't.  I even asked them what type they recommend and where to purchase it.  There response was "you can get it anywhere".  I have yet to find any.

I would recommend a speed shop as Supertrapp offers repack kits for their muffflers.

Generally, the repacking material is rock wool due to it's tolerance for heat and just outright cost. Also, the more/less you use will affect how it sounds. You could also go through JC Whitney as I know they offer repackable exhausts as well.

Two brothers has one, for sure....with a roll of packing material, rivets, and a drill bit to drill out the old rivets.  It's like $20
One of the big motorcycle magazines had a 'how to' article about a year ago on repacking your slip on.  Can't remember which one..... :duh:

I can't find one at the moment but D&D does make one.  I remember looking at them when I had my D&D.  IIRC it was ~$30 for rivets and the packing.

Most bike shops sell repacking material.  I've used packing from a company called Silent Sport.  Works well and not too expensive.
