Title: Replacing The Bandit1200 With A '06 Hayabusa
Post by: banditnek on December 07, 2006, 04:31:04 AM
Looks like I'm going to finally get to replace my '97 1200. I've been looking around for a newer bike for a while, went to a local dealer to look at a new '06 FJR1300, a used '05 Bandit 1200 and a used '05 Busa. When I got there they had sold the FJR already, so I was looking at this '05 silver and black Busa with less than 4,000 miles on it. I've always wanted a Busa and I thought I better get one before I get too old to ride one. I'm talking to the salesman about the '05 Busa and I see they have a new '06 in black marked down to $9,995. Decided I might as well get the '06 for a grand more and have a warranty. We worked out the deal and applied for a loan. Dealer said he wouldn't know about the loan until the next day. By the time I drove home he had called and said I was approved! The only thing is they don't want to give much for the Bandit. I'm going to strip all my accessories and sell them and try to sell the Bandit myself. If I can't sell it before I pick-up the Busa I'll have to take what they will give me for it.

Too bad you will have to give up your membership to BanditAlleyBBS now that your selling your bandit (just kidding). Hope you don’t miss the standard ringing position as the Busa will predominantly have you in the football stance. I agree with you going for what you want before the age kicks in as I am also considering a future Concours 14 purchase but at 49 I know I must stay in the predominantly upright riding position and add a little more comfort without compromising performance which I hope the Concouse will offer. I must say though that the Busa has the sweetest fairing and body covering I have ever seen.

v/r Gunner G :congrats:

PS, since you are financing the bike, I hope you looked at the full coverage insurance cost on the Busa compared to you old Bandito, it should be eye opening to say the least...

Way to go !!! If I was your age, or younger, fer shure I'd have a 'Busa. After all, the 'Busa is really a very[/u] sophisticated Bandit, IMO. Same "attitude", same "mission",
same "road less travelled" looks, etc etc.
Enjoy your new ride. :beers:

Title: Insurance & parts for sale
Post by: banditnek on December 07, 2006, 03:08:53 PM
Swamp rat the parts I'm selling are listed in The parts for sale section of this site. The insurance for a Busa with Progressive, the insurance company I'm using now, is over $1700/year. That was gonna break the deal! Geico only wants $655/year. Roamr said Progressive was a rip-off, he was right. Geico will be getting my business now.
Title: Replacing The Bandit1200 With A '06 Hayabusa
Post by: Russtang on December 07, 2006, 08:00:43 PM
That's weird.  Geico quoted me nearly $800 on my 91 400 for full coverage.  Progressive was less than $180.

Dunno how they calculate these rates, but it sure seems screwy.

Yup Geico is good. I pay $99 a year total for all three of my motorcycles, 05 Bandit 1200, 04 DRZ400s, and 06 Vino 125. Of course that is 300k legal Liability only (paid cash or credit card). In 34 years never had a bike stolen yet always tool harden locked & chained to something stationary. The way I figure it, if you can stay off full coverage insurance for 5 years (liability only), you can use the money saved to buy another new bike cash rather then having the insurance company steel it anyway in the form of high cost money anyway.

I think where you live has a lot to do with the cost of insurance.  Here I would have to use a high end insurance company.  My agent had to twist a few arms to get my company to insure my Bandit 1200. They had it on the restricted list.  I got full coverage for 800 and that is not a bad deal for this part of the world.

Every mans got to know his limitations. :beers:
All kidding aside, I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt on one, but if you ride within yourself, and not take chances but practice, you could handle the Busa, it is a very easy bike to ride.

Hey you won't be sorry!  :beers: The comfort of these are pleasantly surprising! I'm well over 50 and rode mine to and from the dragon twice 800 miles with no stopping. No problem at all stock.. 43 to 50 mpg, 5400 miles out of the OEM tire and for that price on the 06! now the 07's are on the floor they should throw in a 3 yr ext warranty. Got any questions just ask! PS i got $3,000.00 trade for my 98 with 43k miles.

Hey  :beers:  :bigok: Just turn the Old Bandit out to pasture "A" I had a hard time leaving her after the trade! :duh:  :crybaby: But soon got over it, about the first time i looked at the speedo and said Dayum!! 155 on the Bandit is a memorable occasion! On the Busa? Not Again! I got to watch this!!:cop: 44 to 50 MPG and we just got to remember to stop twisting that throttle thingy! Not that the B12 was any slouch, but the Busa is like a Bandit on steroids past 120. BTW with the 06,s sellin 4 about 9K or so, what made you get the 07 with the ZX killer comin out nxt yr?
Title: Replacing The Bandit1200 With A '06 Hayabusa
Post by: ATC'er on December 13, 2006, 08:36:26 PM
I feel kind of guilty about it and hope I'm making a good decision.  I had the Bandit for almost 2 years and put 12,000 miles on it (including a lot of upgrades).  Dealer didn't have any '06s, so I figured I'd get an '07 and eventually trade it in for an '09, leaving a model year for Suzuki to work out any bugs with the '08, assuming that there will be some since it's supposed to be a new design.  Plus, I expect there to be a price increase-along with increase in insurance premiums-compared to an '07.

Hey  :congrats: Its a zuki so what's not to like! The big thing i miss about not having the Bandit is the folk that is on this site! The best! and even with PeteSC and now Red01 and many more just not about much and now us jumpin ship!maybe we can revive it with the B1299? been all over the net and there are some raunchy sites with Busa at the start of it and some that are great like http://hayabusa.org/cgi-bin/busa/ikonboard.cgi and a few others but they could never fill the void of this site and all the down to earth folk here.

Bandit or 'Busa I not leaving Bandit Alley. I'm not picking up my black '06 'Busa till the end of March. I have it in a layaway plan, I'm trying to pay as much as I can down on it before I finance it.  If we have a spring rally I guess it wil be a Suzuki Rally! Daytona is the stock seat very comfortable? Have you bought a track stand for tire changes? I want to get one that will work on the front or back. :beers:

Like i said some where here YOU will be very pleased with the comfort. Riding position and all. The only thing i had, Was bit of pain with was my L-wrist! got a bit sore when i first got it cause most of my riding was in town. To much fwd pressure i guess. Got over it quickly and this Big Bandit will shine on the longer faster hi way cruising! She will really shine @ 85 + + +. I made a stand out of rebar, my favorite stuff. I made my eng guard on my B12 in my pic below. But if i were you there are many too be had for about $85.00 that will do front and rear. But like the Bandit for less than a C note you can hang a center stand on her OEM and take it where ever you go. The best IMO.   :congrats:  :bigok:

And one more thing with the hinged tank! This babe is so easy to work on! T body sync with the po mans carb / Tb sync'r is about a 10 min job! Exhaust! You can hang about any bolt and a few slip ons with no fuel mapping. Runs best on reg gas like the Bandit but will get almost 50 mpg! and that's as fast as you can and get away with it! Pure zuki!!   :bigok:  :beers:  :congrats:

love the busa motor, dont know how you guys can handle the riding position? I guess I am way too old.
Ill wait until Suzuki gives me a 150hp naked bike. May be the B King, but the King will need some cosmetic work before I can stand to see it out of the garage. But if naked bikes popularity keeps up like this I think we will have some nice choices over the next year or two. I am glad to see them on the comeback, new bandit, z1000, aprilia, ducati, MV, ktm soon, its awesome!
Title: 'Busa centerstand
Post by: banditnek on December 15, 2006, 07:54:06 AM
The Suzuki website Says $219 for stock centerstand. Where can you get them for a $100?
Title: Replacing The Bandit1200 With A '06 Hayabusa
Post by: ATC'er on December 15, 2006, 08:16:08 AM
I saw that on the Suzuki website too.  There's also a center-stand kit listed under misc. that lists for $134.95.  I can't tell what the difference is between the two.  I told the dealer I wanted a centerstand and they quoted me a price of $120, so I guess I'm getting the kit.  Anyone know the difference between the center stand for $219 and the kit for $134?

I like that color scheme Daytona.  That would've been my first choice if it were available.

Kinda loosing it! Hey if you want a C stand on her i would get it in the deal from the dealer! But install it yourself. They say you have to drop the exhaust headers but i didn't just a little pryin and the bolt went rite in. I could install one in 20 min start to finish! Ebay has em at anytime one just went off for $75.00 new! one that is always on for $119.00   http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150070758135&fromMakeTrack=true Hey if you don't mind you need to join or visit this site http://hayabusa.org/cgi-bin/busa/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=12;t=64571; and just do some reading. They are great folk there and can be addictive like here. One thing is real with the busa THE SIDE STAND WILL FOLD UP AND DOWN SHE GOES!!!! But if parked with care no probs. I almost dropped mine twice while on Bandit get to gether. slight push fwd or park heading  down hill and over it can go. You know i find that so not rite with the Hayabusa! It is and will be a very good tourer! They make the clip on's that will help with the neck ache some may get from the head tilt up, and With Corbin beetles or just a set of soft saddles and com-on-mama lets go X country. The Gixxer's or Cbrr's are for the Squids or race track IMO That's why zuki gave it this GSX1300R she can do it all! Haul the load or will snap the neck of a Crotch rocket on the straight and on the twisties in the right hands. Or will chug around with me like a cruiser.

Post by: rocketman1 on January 09, 2007, 03:47:24 AM
I have a Bandit , I rode a Busa, Busa is as easy to ride a Bandit. You do not have to crank open the throttle, a Busa is very easy just to ride quietly, then gun it safely on the straights. It is a far more sophisticated bike from the dash through to the massive rear swingarm, they are certainly one icon of a bike, I am going to buy a Busa and then hold onto it, one day(20years) they will be a sought after bike
just like the old 900 Kwakas are now. As long as you you look after it.

Very nice bike and you made a good decision too enjoy it before you cant. At 50 I try and go trail riding everyday on my DRZ400 which really exercised my balance and agility. Then when I climb aboard my 05 B12 I feel like I am riding something so simple and seem much more focused and agile. When I think of the Busa, the white color model always comes to mined with really makes the Japanese symbols stand out.

According to the Suzuki UK site, (http://www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/) the B-King is not yet available. IIRC, it's supposed to out in August.

Go to http://www.suzukibking.co.uk/ and click on TV Ad.  :bigok:

The '07 Busa has a list price of £8,649 (US$16,963.65 ) in the UK and lists for only US$11,149 here in the US, so you can see bikes are a lot cheaper in the States.
(And the gas to run 'em on, too.)

Hey Paul your not wrong there bike or car, here in the UK you pay top price for them and again the fuel to run 'em is pricey too.
we just had the budget here and the goverment has just increased fuel duty again by 2p but this wont be until october....how kind of them :annoy:
No news here for the launch of the B-king or the price. I recon it will be in the region of £8000+
Unfortunatly even though i want a Busa the finances say no :crybaby:

:thanks: Yup, I'm home! Got back Dec. 23rd.
I enjoyed my time in Europe, I'm glad I went and I got a chance to see a lot of cool places (unfortunately, without a bike), but it's nice to be home.

Age has nothing to do with, ride what you like. I will be 60 my next birthday, and untill th Bandit, I had GSXRs and a RF 900.

I resemble that remark! Will be cranking over the big 7-oh in early May. Started working out again 3-4 days a week in 2000, age 63. Believe me, it made all the difference in riding enjoyment, and people often ask how old I am (think Slim Pickens riding the bomb in "Dr. Strangelove").

I'm with you on the 'Busa - the Bandit seems to be getting slower every year and I was thinking of putting a turbo on it. Too much power is just enough.  :gatlin

Took the new Hayabusa out Sunday for a 250 mile run. At the end she was up to  500 miles, cranked it up to 8000 rpm, it is little quicker than the old Bandit. The more I ride her the more I like her.

Oh, YEAH! You won't be needing a turbo for quite a while with the 'Busa, but you may want to lower it and add an extended swingarm ("think drag-racer"). Both the Bandit and the 'Busa are wheelie-prone.  :congrats:  Hope you get more smiles to the mile!
