Title: Some bike pics from France
Post by: Red01 on September 11, 2006, 06:24:52 AM
One day while wandering around the countryside I came across a little cafe in a small village that seemed to be hosting lunch for a vintage bike tour...

The weather looked like it might rain, so some of the bikes were covered with tarps...

Some of the bikes in the parking lot at work that you won't find in the USA.

A Voxan Street Scrambler

A pair of Hondas - a Dominator and a Varadero

A Yamaha TDR125, a 2-stroke single styled similar to the 4-stroke parallel twin TDM850 the US got for a couple of years.

One of the faults my digital camera has is it is difficult to catch moving targets... I caught the first picture of this Guzzi by accident and only got the second one because he had to stop for a second at the traffic circle.

Very cool front suspension on that "Follis"... wonder how it rides?

Thanks for the pics!

Neat stuff.  I wish we got to see more stuff like that on this side of the pond.

No problem on the pics! That's fun!

That's an "Earles" or "Leading Link" type front fork.  Used to be real common on BMW's that were sold as sidecar rigs.
Occasionally showed up on others, like the Follis above.
DKW/Sachs even used that type fork on their dirt bikes as late as the early 1970's.

In fact, some sidecar makers still offer this type front end as an option for their kits.

Other than missing my bike and my wife (and the wife will be here soon), having to work too many hours and the language barrier (darned French have a different word for almost everything), things are going OK.

that';s hilarious.

those are definitely some cool old bikes.

That leading link suspension is cool, but I imagine its a little funky as your wheel base would change differently under compression than a fork would. also, that's a lot of weight up front...

of course its not as funky as the Megola:

yep thats a radial engine INSIDE the front wheel...

They let you out of the office long enough to snap some pics, eh? It doesn't surprise me that you managed to work some two stroke pics in, either.

I sent the DTK DVD over with Stephanie. Not as good as Faster imo, but worth watching.

For those of you who keep drooling over that GSX1400...

I've come to a conclusion that some of the bikes I spotted flying by on the city streets I thought were Bandits were Yamaha XJ600N's which have the similar triangular frame & cover piece just behing the yoke and under the tank.

OK, here's a game for you - what model of Honda is this?

Extra points for ID'ing the different bikes parts were robbed from.

I'll take the easy one: the back wheel and SA are from a VFR.

No extra points for you... you gotta get the bike right first.  :monkeymoon:

Which one of you that thought your little tires made your 1200 look bad feel wimpy now, eh?

Des:  Those look like tires from a CRX - the Civic, not the bike!

I wonder how that bike would drive with tires like that without the sidecar?  It certainly looks mean!
