want to trade my bandit, what is it worth?
« on: March 14, 2008, 12:04:25 AM »
Hi, I am wanting to do the unthinkable and trade in my 1999 Bandit 1200 on a new 2008 Kawasaki KLR 650.  What do you guys think is a fair trade value?  It has 34,000 miles.  The bike is in very good shape, glossy black paint, I am the original owner, never crashed or dropped.

Here is a list of mods that I have done:

Performance
   Holeshot Stage 2 Jetting
Factory airbox removed and replaced with K&N Pod Filters
D&D Pipe (I recently repacked this pipe, it is actually pretty quiet now, especially for a D&D, but    has a very deep rumble)
   Holeshot Midpipe
   5° Ignition Advance
   14 Tooth Front Sprocket
   Barnett Clutch Springs

Suspension
Suzuki Hayabusa rear shock was added to replace the stocker, this is a much better shock and it    is fully adjustable.  This shock causes the bike to sit about 1.5” higher than stock in the rear.  The front end was also lowered slightly, this gives a much greater steering response.
I custom CNC’d a ½” thick Fork stabilizer brace from billet aluminum.

Brakes
The front brake calipers were replaced with Suzuki Hayabusa 6 piston Tokico and are running EBC pads.  Much better braking than stock.

Appearance
The bike originally came with a fairing, which I removed and converted it into a ‘streetfighter’.
I custom CNC’d all the bracketry for the headlights, all of which is billet aluminum.  It now has dual headlights; both lights are on at all times.
I also replaced the front turn signals with small, but very bright LED’s.
The tail section has been trimmed and LED turn signals have been installed to either side of the taillight.
There is also another LED cluster used as a marker light on the tail as well, this greatly improves your visibility.
I made custom brackets to mount the license plate under the tail, and it is illuminated with bright white LED’s.  The fender has been eliminated as well.  This gives the bike a very clean appearance from behind.
I stripped and polished the wheels, and motor casings.

You may not get it, but try starting at about 3300-3400. Or see how much the dealer will give on trade. You can see what they are bidding on ebay ( the 1st gen Bandits are going cheap the last time I looked, its been awhile) You might be better listing it locally.  Good luck

Check these out, may help.
Selling your bike should bring more than trading it in.

Well, the bandit has been traded.  The first dealer raved about how nice my bike was, and then lowballed me with the trade.  Sales guy was nice, manager was a piece of crap!  They offered $1200.  So I left......

Dealer 2..... I pulled up with the bandit on the trailer, the owner of the shop comes out, (nice guy, and new a lot about bandits!) sees the bike, we talk, I told him what I had done to it, he offered $2000, said he would have given $2500 but with 34,500 miles he said he just couldn't.  So I had wanted $2300, but I got a good price on a new 2008 KLR650, and a good enough price for the bandit.  I will miss her.  But can't wait to pickup my new toy, which I am sure I will love just the same.

I guess this means I will be parting ways with this site.  It's been nice talking to ya'll all of these years!
