With what a loan? Go for it! Where could you get a bike like that for the $$$$!!!! :beers: :beers:

Whew! That was close! I almost bid!
I'm not a Bandit traitor after all.
Hello, my name is Herb and I'm a bike-a-holic. Today I succeeded in remaining on the wagon yet one more time...
-
Herb,
Winning price seems kind of high for an '82. I saw a really nice '93 a couple of years ago with about 16K miles that sold for $3,300.
The Katana 1100 was my dream bike about 10 years ago.

Had my sure-to-be-winning-bid typed in, finger hovering perilously close to the ENTER key, and running through my mind was...
...it's old...it's old...it's old...it's old...it's old...nnnnnnn...NO! Don't push it!
I need a drink. :beers:

This was to B an Addition not a replacement rite!! :stickpoke:

Actually, that's a low price for a 1G "original" Katana. (The "Kitty Kitty" and "Team Sweat Hart" stencils are tacky and distract from the collector price.) They seem to still be popular. So popular in Japan, the last year they were made was 2002! Probably why the Strosphere prototype draws heavily on the Hans Muth designed Kat. Personally, I thought they were fugly back then and still don't like 'em. (I'd rather have a GS1150 E/EF/ES.)
Straight-line performance is on par with a B12, but the brakes and handling are typical early 80's mush.

Here's a funny comment from another board...
Katana, the begining of ugly motorcycles and I believe is part of the reason sale's of bikes have been soft for 20 years. Dan

What engine sizes did we get here in the USA?
And which years did they sell them?
I assume we never got the shafty version or a 250/400.
If I could make the 1100 lighter than the B12,
it'd be my favorite bike ever. Aesthetically that
German design firm did right.
If there were to be a "Back to the Future" Bike it would be this one.

It appears the All Suzukis Ever Built (http://www.suzukicycles.org/index.html) no longer permits hot-linking of their pics, so click on the links below for pics.
The USA got the GS550M Katana. Not sure what years, but the world got them from 81-83 (I think we did, too - but I'm not sure).

We (USA) got the GS650G Katana during this time period, too. AFAIK, this is the only shaft-drive Kat.

I'm not sure if we ever got any of the 81-86 GS750S Kats, but Canada did get at least one year of the updated 85-86 Kat - which IMHO is the best looking of the bunch.

Some markets got a variant of the pop-up headlighted 750 Katana. These were called Shark.

We got the GS1000S Katana in 82-83. US versions had CV carbs while other markets got manual slide carbs and made more power. The 83 model was limited to 3000 units.
We got the GS1100S in 83. Europe and other markets got the 1100 (prefixed as GSX) from 82-84.
The Japanese market got the GSX250S model in 91-92 and the GSX400S model in 92-93. They also got the 1100 up thru 91 and again in 94 and 2000-2002.

Weird, now I get "Forbidden..." type messages. Could you just draw some pictures?

Dayum! OK, go here:
http://www.suzukicycles.org/index.html
Click on the "All Suzuki Models" tab.
Click on the "Suzuki GS Series" tab.
In this section, click on the following tabs to view the bikes/info:
"Suzuki GS550M Katana"
"Suzuki GS650G Katana"
"Suzuki GS750S Katana"
"Suzuki GS1000S Katana"
When you're done looking at those, go back to the All Models tab and click on "Suzuki GSX Series" tab and click on the following:
"Suzuki GSX250S Katana"
"Suzuki GSX400S Katana"
"Suzuki GSX750S Katana"
"Suzuki GSX1000S Katana"
"Suzuki GSX1100S Katana"
Most of the images that come up on these pages are clickable for larger versions.
In a nutshell, the 250, 400, early 750, 1000 & 1100 models all look pretty much the same. The late 750 has a different front fairing with hideaway headlight that when down, makes the fairing look smooth, otherwise, its general shape is the same. It also has a monoshock rear suspension and a sleeker tail section. The 550 has typical original style Katana tank & seat (with a better looking tail than the 1000's style, IMHO), but no front fairing (ie; a naked Katana). The 650 looks pretty much the same as the 550, but has shaft final drive instead of chain.

This is the perfect Katana:
It looks a million dollars, and it handles!
