PLAISTOW — A man fleeing on a stolen motorcycle was killed Wednesday, scarcely a mile from where he stole it, when he plowed into a car making a left-hand turn on Route 125.
Deputy Police Chief Kathleen Jones said yesterday the man, who was not carrying identification at the time of the accident, has been identified as Jarret M. Martin, 28, of Amesbury, Mass. Jones said Martin died after being flown to Boston Medical Center following the crash.
Jones said Martin stole a 2004 Yamaha R6 sport motorcycle from Plaistow PowerSports at 107 Plaistow Road, just north of Home Depot, and headed south at what witnesses estimated was about 100 mph.
"We got a call at 1:45 about a motorcycle stolen from Plaistow PowerSports," Jones said. "Then just a minute later — at 1:46 — we started getting calls about a motorcycle crash."
At the traffic signal in front of the Kohl's shopping center, Jones said, Martin collided with a northbound car making a left into the shopping plaza.
"I don't know whether the light was red or green, and I'm not sure it would have mattered," Jones said.
She said the woman who was driving the car Martin hit was not injured, though "she was pretty distraught."
Officer Brett Morgan is still investigating the case, Jones said
How far do you figure he would have made it on an R1? A block...half mile....even out of the parking lot?
