I think the 1st generation of it was imported to the US for 2 or 3 years.

The early TDM's in Oz had the 850 twin from the TRX (since discontinued on Oz).  The latest model has a 900 twin.

yeah 900cc.. it's a great bike espesially if you are a bit tall like I am... I rode it a few times when I visited a relative back in Europe. The riding position is amazing and it's got plenty of power. They are really popular in Europe! I wish I could find one here...

Here are a couple more pics

Yup, the US got the TDM when it first came out. The press liked it, but it didn't sell well, so Yamaha dropped it from the US market.

The Yamaha TDM 850 was in the US from 1991-1993. It was powered at 80 hp with the v-twin engine and had a top speed of 129 mph. I remember seeing them on the showroom brand new in Junction City, Kansas. They were mostly red with black writing. I thought they were a nice alternative from the cookie cutter sportbikes. Yamaha must have been trying different technology, because the GTS 1000 with the detuned FZR 1000 engine was in the dealedship also with the high tech front suspension also.

The TDM is currently overseas (Europe) with a 900 V twin engine. Still a greatlooking bike. I don't personally know anyone except dealers that have experienced them, but I liked the TDM for its originality.

I think you'll find that the TDM is parallel twin not a V twin.....

Yes we get it down under, but as with most of these types of bikes unless it's got a BMW badge on it no-one will buy it.

You guys in the states may have a cruiser dominated market, ours is a mix of full on sports bike or dirt bike.

The top selling bikes in Oz are (no particular order)

GSX1000R
YZF-R1
WR450
XR400
CT110

Not a cruiser or 'dual purpose' bike to be seen.

You're right Aussie, I see the parrell twin through the frame in the pictures above. :duh:
