Newbie from Canadian west coast has a question
« on: March 27, 2017, 11:45:46 PM »
Hello forum members! As the title states, I'm a canuck from British Columbia, long time ( 40 yrs. ) rider.  Old dude! Anyway after a 10 day 3000 miles trip on a 1600 Kawasaki Nomad last year I said no more cruisers for me. Went around corners like a lumber wagon, waaaay too heavy. Sold it, found a 2003 Bandit 1200S with 9000 miles on her in late September. Spent the winter modding it to suit me and will put her on the road in 2 or 3 weeks. One thing tho....I took the left control switch off to install new grips, and when I put it back on the choke lever no longer sticks in one spot. It wants to immediately go back to the choke off position, spring loaded on the carb body I imagine. I don't know if something fell out when I took the switch off or what, can't figure it out. Anybody else encounter this? By the way I love the bike, rides great and plenty fast. Nothing I can't fix myself on the machine, solid and simple. Thanks for any replies.

I did disassemble only old 1991 Bandit but I assume that these mechanisms are similar. You are correct that the mechanism is spring loaded - there's a spring at the carb end of choke line. But I don't think there's anything special in handlebar control about choke. Didn't you just greased/oiled the thing up that there's so little friction that the lever returns to 'off' position immediately?
Bandit 400 1991 - stock except of swap from GK75B to GK75A

Hi there. No, I didn't grease up anything. Weird. Oh well I'll come up with something. Thanks.
